Happy 50, Kristin Scott Thomas

.

I know that she can play so much more than a bitch,
but I do love it when she plays a bitch most of all.

50 is the age to be. The "gorgeous, talented, fascinating, sexy" 50-plus club gets bigger and better every year.

Can you believe Julianne Moore is turning 50 this year?

KST = LOVE
When are we expecting the film version of The Seagull? Has there been news on that one that I've missed, or what?

Thank you, JA!! Kristin is amazing at 50. I just saw her at Cannes, she is ageless.

Hayden, you are soo right about the 50+ club. I know about JM, though I wouldn't believe it if I didn't. I am really happy to see actresses aging gracefully and keeping their body and mind young without botox and surgery. The experience, maturity and strength they radiate make them exceptionally beautiful. It's really inspiring.

50 is the new 33. (And I think 33 was the new 25.)

Whenever I watch "Four Weddings and a Funeral," which is suprisingly often, I yell at Hugh Grant for being in love with Andie MacDowell and not Kristin. And wouldn't you?

She's so underrated, but yet held in such esteem at the same time. You're right, she nails bitch so well and then she nailed parodying her type cast role in Easy Virtue. For me her best role is I've Loved You So Long. Incredible performance that was royally snubbed.

I just (re)watched Gosford Park last night! Sublime.

When I saw this earlier I was gonna ask, but what do people think about I've Loved You So Long? I remember seeing the trailer and just thinking she looked like she was phenomenal in it -- if it weren't for Melissa Leo, she obviously would've had an Oscar nod for that. I think I want to see it though.

No way. Angelina Jolie took Thomas' (you could also say Hawkins as well) spot.

Philip, even without Melissa Leo, there was still Sally Hawkins (Happy-Go-Lucky) to fight off. Let's pick: A fully textured human being who chooses to always see the good in people, even when most would think that impossible or a great performance of motherly grief that's only slightly less monotonous than Changeling.

but motherly grief is like the #1 oscar bait thing for women.

I think it goes like

#1 grief (the simpler variety the better therefore Jolie > KST at Oscars though not in real life.)
#2 long-suffering partner/spouse (she stands by her man)
#3 deglam (the more obvious the better)
#4 pluck/charm/fantasy girl of some sort
#5 prostitution (but usually one with hearts of gold)

Wow for a moment I thought that was Marlena!

Love that scene, where she is so bored after her husbands death, that she might as well get it on with ryan Phillipe. She says something like, "life must go on." She's really fabulous thru out that entire movie. Actually, that entire film is fabulous...one of my favs

Oh gods, Visa offers infiltrating the blog! how rude! We only talk about film experiences not credit! I'm trying to forget my debt by going to the movies!!!

I have delted the offending comment, Chris.

you wouldn't believe how much spam I have to clear daily. UGH. Most of it y'all never have to see but I get at least dozens of spam comments daily (I have to moderate any post over a week old due to this junk mail phenomenon.)

There were so many Oscar robberies in 2008. Also: Michelle Williams.

Anyway, a truncated version of Gosford Park

Sylvia: (kicks dog) That's for kicking precedence for LOU-EE-SA!
Sylvia: Don't be so snobbish Aunt Constance.

She can kick my ribcage anytime. :S

ANGEL & INSECTS is my favorite KST's perf. In 1997 of course I was glad that the Academy nominated her for THE ENGLISH PATIENT, but I always thought that there could have been a better perf in the supporting actress category

what a pity that after Minghella's film Kristin became more famous but her roles were uninteresting, at least for a while...

Mirko -- i think she's aces in ANGELS & INSECTS too. i probably would have nominated her for that. maybe even for 4 WEDDINGS though the nature of that year's race has escaped my mind briefly.

love her.
