The eternal hallowed tradition of frozen awards night grins. People do resent it... they really really resent it when Sally Field wins things!
P.S. Good luck to the producers of the Soapdish remake. The movie isn't sacred per se but good luck finding a cast like this. And how the hell you gonna do better than Cathy Moriarty as "Montana" / "Nurse Nan"? Answer: You aren't.

This is one of my favorite movies, and I quote it on a regular basis. In fact, I made a card for a friend recently referencing the line from this post.
I found a 1950's-era photo of three ladies smiling at a fourth one as they all played cards. I pasted the photo to some card stock and then drew thought bubbles with the three ladies thinking, "Bitch"; "Hag"; and "I hate her so much," from left to right. The tragic thing is that the recipient had no idea that I was even referencing anything. *sigh* Casting pearls before swine, I tell ya.
hee. great story.
i really wanted to choose something different because MONTANA MOOREHEAD is such a phenomenally great "bitch" performance but i found many of her best moments didn't really translate in this format.
shame.
It's Carrigan!!! D:
for a moment I thought this was Sally saying , "They like me, they really like me."
Love this movie! and it's great that the remake is making people talk about it again.
Where the hell *is* Cathy Moriarty? Shouldn't she and Kathleen Turner be playing sisters in a Baby Jane-esque movie or something?
One of the hideously underrated/forgotten gems of the 90s. Infinitely quotable with hilarious performances all around. This quote from Whoopi Goldberg being one of my all-time favorites:
"The guy was killed in an auto accident! I looked it up! He was driving in the Yukon, in a pink convertible, to visit his brother who's an ex-con named Frances, when a tractor trailer comes along and decapitates him. You know what that means, it means he doesn't have a head. How am I suppose to write for a guy who doesn't have a head? He's got no lips, no vocal cords. What do you want me to do?"
Writing like this is rare.
Remembered a little tidbit about this film and its true cultural relevance. Years back I was on the phone with a friend of mine who was recounting all that I had missed from Guiding Light while I was abroad. It seemed that the matriarch of the series, Uber-bitch Alexandra, was taking a small mini-break but would be back later that year.
Obviously I could not resist and said: "Did she go to see the Dalai Lama?" There was a small pause on the line then my friend (who had never seen Soapdish) said: "How did you know?" True enough, Alexandra had gone on a spiritual quest somewhere in Asia to find herself. Golden.
I still can't believe the only one that got any attention for this film was Kevin Kline. :P
