Curio: Rachel the Replicant

Alexa from Pop Elegantiarum here with your weekly art break.

Today is Ridley Scott's 73rd birthday, and 10 days ago Sean Young celebrated her 51st birthday (probably while rehearsing for Skating With the Stars). Their collaboration in Blade Runner put Metropolis, Edward Hopper and film noir into a blender to create a thing of beauty. Who can forget Rachel, the replicant heroine played with uncharacteristic restraint by Young, with her memory implants, Mildred Pierce hair and padded-shoulder suits? In celebration, here is a gallery of original images devoted to her.

Nathaniel, I can't believe you mention Sean Young's random birthday completely forgetting Goldie Hawn's 65th just over a week ago. Are you not a fan? I saw her Deceived on Sunday. I'd never seen it and found it dreadful. I was reading the film's reviews online and found out it was her bday exactly a week earlier. Had I known about it before, I'd have celebrated with something more proper, like Death Becomes Her or Private Benjamin.

Sorry, I just realised Nathaniel is not the author. Please ignore. Apologies.

Marek -- i'm going to try to limit myself to 10/25/50/75/100th anniversaries now. otherwise it gets too cumbersome.

but i love this post because Blade Runner is epic, one of my all time favorites and i was always obsessed with Rachel the Replicant.
