God she's great in that movie.

As are Bening and Cusack for that matter - a very underrated film, in my opinion and often forgotten.

i would have given her the Oscar.

One of the all time great performances, IMO. Like the film itself, Lily transcends time and place, existing not in 1990, not in 1940, just....existing.

I'm not a Cusack fan (well, Joan I am, John not so much) so for me the movie is all about Huston and Bening. Both are just brilliant.

Not a Cusack fan either; he's only sold me on one performance, and that's his work in Malkovich.

Huston was fine here, I thought, although a tad too muted. If anyone should have won an Oscar IMO, it was Bening.

Well I love Huston even more in The Witches, but I realize that objectively speaking, her Grifters work is more impressive. She really deserved a double globe nom/drama globe win that year. It was all very Kidman 2001.
