Succes d'estime

Cannes winners announced. More on this later undoubtedly. Coolest prize sight unseen "Best Actress" going to the cast of Pedro Almodovar's Volver. Go Pedro! (He also won the screenplay prize making Volver the only film emerging as a double prize winner.)

Very cool about Volver. Has Pedro made a fourth masterpiece in a row?

Also, happy belated Meryl Streep Day!

I know! I was reading that and thought "wait... is that a surprise or just a normal thing we're meant to know?" aah.

I'm extremely happy for Rolf de Heer (Aussie living LEGEND) who's Ten Canoes won a special prize from the Un Certain Regard section.

Oh, and I meant to mention how great it was that they gave the acting prizes to ensembles.

If only other film bodies could see that ensembles are important.

"Volver" is a good movie, it's very funny but it is not the best Almodovar. The power of the film is in the female performances. Penelope Cruz and Carmen Maura gave unforgettable proof of their work. Penelope has to work in Europe, there's no doubt. American directors can't give here value.

Rolf de Heer? A living legend? Did you *see* "Alexandra's Project"?

Yes Goran I did. And many others. He's a treasure.

(Alexandra's Project was excellent)
