that dress on cathy is hideous.
I was at the premiere and Michelle Williams spent the entire red carpet seemingly clutching onto the other women for support. It was really touching and a nice example of female solidarity.
Keener looks...dramatic.
Are you kidding? Who are these pseudo starlets? What flavour of what month? Where is Laura Linney? Where is Marcia Gay Harden?

Keener has been doing great work for years. Morton is a genius (see Morvern Callar, Jesus's Son, etcetera) and Williams is just coming into her own and keeps doing interesting movies.
Three of the worst dressed actresses in Hollywood, too.
Wiiliams, I believe, has yet to prove herself, but I agree with the other three.

You know Nat, of all the entries to get this sort of reaction I wouldn't have guessed it'd be one about Keener/Williams/Morton.

I thought Williams was amazing in Brokeback Mountain. I was expecting good perfs from the guys, but she was a revelation to me.
I really don't get the hate in this thread. I have absolutely no arguement with Nat's title - those are three women whose presence in a feature makes me sit up and take notice. (The Libertine, for instance, was hideous on a lot of levels, but Samantha Morton was amazing it; and Keener is often far better than the projects she's in.)

Catherine Keener is actually older than Laura Linney. That and she's a) not in Synecdoche New York and b) not in this photo.

What the hell has Williams done to be designated one of the best actresses in Hollywood?
She was perfectly fine in Brokeback Mounatin (though it was pretty much a variation on the weeping woman routine she perfected as Jen Lindley on Dawson's Creek), but other than that...I got nuthin'.
Judging by reviews, she's wasn't any good in Deception, her last film with Jackman and Mcgregor (a film that I won't bother seeing, based on those horrible reviews).
She may have potential, but she simply hasn't proven herself yet. Bryce Dallas Howard has done far more to prove herself (among Williams age group), and I'd still be reluctant to call Howard one of the best actresses in Hollywood.
Williams has got a decent slate of films coming up, but till I see her performances in them, I'm not exactly convinced that's she's some huge talent.

maybe i'm being optimistic about Williams but the reviews for her new leading role (Wendy & Lucy) are pretty remarkable.
Michelle Williams was also great in Me Without You, and was pretty much the best part of The Baxter (Dawson's Creek and Dick obviously go without saying. Obviously).

I suppose after seeing Scarlett Johansson proclaimed one of the top ten actresses of the aughts and Lindsay Lohan making the top 30 nothing should really surprise me any more.

anon... well, obviously scarlett and lindsay will both be dropping down when the actual list comes out in just 1 1/2 years (best of the aughts) --wow how time flies.
Remember that list was written in feb 2005. Much has changed in the past 3 and a 1/2 years ;)
much could change for scarlett too i feel.
