Lunchtime Poll: Telephone Tomfoolery

Hi! In honor of the new celly banner, some phone mischief.

Q: If you could eavesdrop* on one movie star or director's phone calls, who would it be? Whose private conversations would you most like to be privvy to?

Your answer should be typed silently in the comments so as not to blow your cover with loud noises (set the phone down gently now) Bye [click]

*Eavesdropping is wrong (!) and not condoned by the management of The Film Experience.

Marlee Matlin's.

Okay, seriously...Robin Williams has gotten almost conventional when out among the rest of us. I gotta believe he still channels Mork when he is on the phone and he thinks only the person he is phoning is listening. That Robin Williams was a hoot, even in such stodgy venues as Dick Cavett's old talk show.

What went down between Scarlett and Sofia during the filming of Lost in Translation... they must've spoken on the phone during/after that time?

This comment by Scarlett in an interview for Paste magazine (June 08) recently ignited my interest: "At that time, my mom was still coming with me to work. She legally had to be there - thank God she was there! I think everybody wished they had their mom with them on that job."

I would love to listen in to Keira Knightley's agent.

In the last month I've heard she's in a remake of My Fair Lady and playing Cordelia to Anthony Hopkin's King Lear.

The agent must be damn fine - that's all I'm saying.

[Oh, and welcome back Nat]

Guillermo del Toro for two reasons:
- Improving my lame Spanish
- He is the best storyteller around. I've listened to Pan's with the commentary two or three times. He always has something interesting to say.

(Though I would listen to Clive Owen's in a stalkery way....)

we haven't heard from JA or Nick. they probably don't want their screen husbands (Jake & Sean, respectively) to worry anymore than they already do.

I think most conversations would probably be pretty pedestrian, you know, about where they want to eat, and when they'll meet, etc.

So I'll pick Werner Herzog. Wherever he's phoning from, the Rockies, the Amazon, Antarctica, and the difficulties he's having, and the fascinating actors he's working with --- now, that would be cool. Innocent bystander observing something truly strange.

paul thomas anderson. his commentary for boogie nights was so wonderful, and every time i see/hear him interviewed, i just love hearing him talk and talk and talk. he's like if quentin tarantino had something interesting to say. either him or martin scorsese talking to robert deniro on the phone. i imagine its pretty much scorsese talking to himself, and deniro making that deniro face on the other end.

Terrence Howard's voice is very soothing to me, but James McAvoy's turns me on so I'm undecided.
