Mad Men in Manhattan

Remember that Mad Men Season 2 party I invited y'all to last week? None of you showed --or if you did you were too shy to introduce yourselves but it was a ball and well attended, too. My basic rule of thumb for invites in Manhattan is "ACCEPT" because you can always leave and you never know who might show up. It was a bit strange at first to watch the often very quiet / subtle show with a big responsive group but it somehow made the show funnier and more surprising, too. Audible gasps and big laughter were heard throughout the night.
"This is ridiculous. If I'm going to die I want to die in Manhattan."
-Pete Campbell (Vincent Kartheiser) on Mad Men, refusing to leave the island with his wife during the Cuban Missile Crisis
The Lipp Sisters who run the Basket of Kisses Mad Men fan blog were great hosts i.e. friendly, inclusive and high spirited (you may remember Deborah from frequent comments here at TFE -- she also runs Ultimate James Bond fan blog). Matthew Weiner, the creator of the show, even stopped by once the credits were rolling to chat with us, the collected fans of his Emmy winning creation. There were Utz potato chips everywhere (great touch, Sisters Lipp!) and even a little swag for guests. You can read the run down of the party here.

When I host a party for something or other (I hope to do so soon) y'all better show...

An awesome finale and I wish I could have been there for the party. Not enough Joan for my tastes, but other than that... There will be such a hole in my TV schedule now, and nothing left to pick up my disappointment immediately after watching True Blood. I guess I'll have to take up drinking.

Nathaniel, that headscarf is FIERCE.

nathaniel, when you have your party, you should make it a theme party and have everyone come dressed as their favorite best actress' nominated performance.

Off Topic:
I just took a trip to Boston and on the flights to and from Pittsburgh I finally got around to listening to the podcast! Everything about is fantastic. It would be amazing without the noteworthy guests but listening to those interviews is like icing on the cake.

Agreed. Fantastic finale, but not enough Joan :)

By the way, how can you have a headscarf themed banner without Little Edie?

so, how could we have gotten into the cast party. i would have killed to go to that....are you talking about the party that was on tv??? joan was there / sal / pete with a crazy hairdo. i'm going to miss that show so much. only 11 episodes? not really fair....now i have to wait til august???? omg - peggy told pete. i hate that priest.....by the way, priests never wear vestments during Mass like that priest had on. priests rarely rarely talk about politics in their homilies. thye need a better cath advsior.

dom --little edie will show. the banner always moves...

hayden --thank you. do you mean this episode or all three?

jimmy --this wasn't a cast party. it was a fan party viewing of the season finale. everyone was invited --i posted the invite right here last week. ANYWAY... how cool that the creator actually showed? that's giving back to the fans I think. good on him.

Nathaniel, thank you SO MUCH for coming, and for posting and linking and all that. It was a blast!

We pushed just a weeee bit past that room's capacity, so our next party will be at a bigger venue, but man, this place was great.

Jimmy, a blog at America: The National Catholic Weekly has been discussing Father Gill's guest appearances. He is wearing choir vestments, indicating he did not actually perform the mass, but is giving a guest homily, and thisis consistent with his role as a young priest visiting a parish.

No, I just got around to listening to all three. Yes, that's right. I sat through both outdated podcasts because they were so entertaining. :)

Hi Miranda!

Agree with Deborah, we're gonna need a bigger boat.

Nathaniel, I'm so glad you came. You were quite delightful, and I was happy to give you a tiny little hamburger.

Man I like the actor that is playing the priest. Colin Hanks has grown greatly from that movie where he let Jack Black steal the show.
