Citizen Kane, fo'sho'
My initial thought was CITIZEN KANE, but then I remembered the opening scene is Kane's death, which does not take place in '1937', so I'm leaning more toward SUDDENLY, LAST SUMMER...
I thought Kane at first too, but the end is Rosebud burning, no?

It is indeed SUDDENLY...
It's totally Suddenly, Last Summer - that first shot is the outside of the asylum wall, and the last is Violet Venable's garden.
Initially I was going with Hush Hush Sweet Charlotte, but I think it is Suddenly Last Summer.

I know this is AWFUL, but this is the first one of this series that I knew without actually having to look for the clue. Apparently, I need to pay more attention at the beginnings of movies.
I got it because of the last shot. That garden is immortal.
