The First Movie Named After a Facebook Status?

For months we called Streep's Christmas release "The Untitled Nancy Meyers Film". That's not as catchy as the final title It's Complicated but it was infinitely more descriptive.

With the trailer's music choices, subdued beige palette, familiar typecast faces (hi, Rita Wilson), and smiley/laughy (but not particularly funny) vibe this appears to be a grade G generic romantic comedy. We'll see. As previously noted, Meryl Streep can carry rather unfortunate films on her shoulders without breaking a sweat and still give the audience a good time. This trailer makes me nostalgic for Something's Gotta Give. That earlier Meyers movie won much favor and critical leeway upon its release by simply reminding people how much they loved a particular star (Diane Keaton). It was in the air and nobody else had given it voice. No such kindly revelation is possible this time. Streep is as ubiquitous a face as possible -- no one has forgotten how they feel about her, one way or the other -- so I doubt the numbers will be quite as big.

"Turns out, I'm a bit of a slut"
-Jane (Meryl Streep) in It's Complicated
If Streep-Mania continues at a full clip through the end of the year, expect to see her end the year with two more big hits under her belt but only one awards horse (Julia & Julia, my review) . Since both of her 2009 films are comedies, she won't be able to swing a second consecutive double Globe nomination after the Mamma Mia! and Doubt twinner for 2008. Not that Streep is exactly lacking in the Globe department. With 23 nominations and six wins she's the all time Globe champ.

Do you think she's got a seventh win coming in January?

Maybe Streep can get the 3rd win. But she still has an uphill battle in Supporting Actress race. Mo'Nique is right now the frontrunner, Precious really needs a big backlash to get Streep a win. Also we must wait for the release of Nine.

Well, I see that the trailer gets a bit trashed around the internets but I'm still looking forward to this. And why not? There will be enough drama/tragedy going on leading up to December, and by Christmas we're all going to be ready to dry our eyes and have a little fun.

I have a feeling Meryl will get her 3rd win...for the reason that she has not had a third win, in the same way Kate Hepburn got a couple because she was Kate Hepburn. If Meryl does win her 3rd it most probably will be at the expense of someone more deserving.

I think the title sucks, but I enjoyed the trailer and I am actually looking forward to this - why does everything have to be deep? Ok, it doesn't, but it's refreshing to see a movie out there about middle-aged women's sexuality. Some of the situations actually echo situations in the lives of some of my friends, so there's a definite audience for this. And, hooray for the return of Steve Martin!

I see Alec Baldwin still has delicious, furry man-tittays. That man ages like a fine wine. He can call me a rude, thoughtless little pig any day of the week.

I doubt it greatly that she'll win. I think there's gonna be great performances in great movies this year for meryl Streep to win. Maybe she won't even get a nomination, just a thought. This movie "its complicated" looks very unoriginal and generic. I've been hating Steve martin lately. His movies have been sucking tremendously. Examples-The pink panther(both), cheaper by the dozen(both). The comedy in this doesn't seem like its gonna separate it and make it memorable. If meryl Streep wasn't in this nobody would even pay attention to this movie. I heard "julia & julia" is alright, nothing special. I haven't seen it but I don't care to, it looks a bit boring. I think the golden globe is gonna go to someone else.

It's a charming trailer. People trash undemanding "chick flicks" but rave about undemanding shoot-em-ups. It looks like fun.

Most likely; it just depends on which "Nine" lady gets shoved into the lead category. Look at all the other leading female comedy contenders: Jessica Biel "Easy Virtue," Amy Adams/Emily Blunt "Sunshine Cleaning," Sandra Bullock "All About Steve," Maya Rudolph, Evan Rachel Wood, Zooey Deshcanel, Ellen Page or Amanda Seyfried.

I could see Deschanel, "Nine" leading lady, Rudolph, Streep and Wood becoming the Best Actress (C/M) category. Too early to tell but, why not?

Alright. I think only few people have understood that Meryl is going lead as Julia. Well, she is.

And I have to say that I don't really care whether she wins one more Globe or not. I mean, this has become rediculous. The globes love her too much. What I care about is her third Oscar and I think she has a good chance.

I don't see her being noticed award-wise for the Meyers film even if she is good.

There's no reason she can't be fab in this in that Diane Keaton way or that Joan Allen, Upside of Anger way: incandescent and dexterous star performances in vehicles that hardly augured that in their trailers. Plus, I think this one looks kind of zippy. I wouldn't miss it.

Even if she's not in supporting, remember Leonardo DiCaprio got twin nominations for "The Departed" and "Blood Diamond" in the same category, and the Globes love Meryl more than Leo...

It's definitely a co-lead, but I wouldn't be surprised at all if they still place Meryl in supporting for a couple reasons: vote splitting with herself for "It's Complicated" and if Meryl goes lead, any chances Amy Adams still has are out the window.

That said, I do think Meryl could win for "Julie & Julia" if she's nominated, which still seems to be a big IF.

Right now my Globe predictions for Best Actress (M/C) are...
Amy Adams (Julie and Julia)
Helen Mirren (Love Ranch)
Michelle Pfeiffer (Cheri)
Meryl Streep (It’s Complicated)
Renée Zellweger (My One and Only)

Do you know what is not complicated ? The overwhelming joy I feel knowing that Alec Baldwin will be shirtless on the big screen again.

I couldn't ask for a better Christmas gift.

Thank you, Nancy Meyers!

Meryl could even get two nominations in the same category at the Globes(Julie and Julia & It's Complicated)just like Leonardo DiCaprio (The Departed & Blood Diamond)and Tim Robbins (The Player & Bob Roberts)among others actors.

Who cares about Meryl Streep. Can we talk about Alec Baldwin finally headlining a movie again? Not only is the man still delicious but f_cking talented as well!

I'm confused ... the Globes allow an actor to be nominated twice in one category, don't they? Worked for DiCaprio in 2006.

Anyway, I'm with Nick here ... I'm personally amazed by how much I like this trailer. ("Like," of course, being a guarded verb.) If both this and "Julie & Julia" were showing at the multiplex tonight and I had to make a choice between them, I'd pick this.

Sure, it looks like nothing more than a zingy little trifle, but sometimes cinema doesn't need to be any more. Of course there are a lot of people out there decrying is as the death of cinema purely because the movie isn't tailored to them AT ALL and yet they think every single movie should be.

I love Meryl Streep to death, but I do not see an Oscar for her this year????

I do think she will nab a Golden Globe nom and possibly a win for "Julie and Julia".

Nancy Meyer just comes up with the worst titles. Surely she could hire someone gifted with title sense for long enough to get a memorable title?

And Streep as Julia Child is intensely lovable - I'd say that is going to be the performance people remember. I'd also say after seeing the movie that Stanley Tucci is right up there for Best Supporting Actor as Paul Child. I wanted to marry him myself.

Oh god, yes, I really like this trailer too - against my better judgment and preconceptions (hated Something's Gotta Give and Diane Keaton in it).

It looks like a nice, zippy little film. And Meryl Streep looks, quite literally, incandescent.

Nathaniel, do you know if there's been any word yet whether Meryl is going leading or supporting for Julie & Julia?...

i just love that alec baldwin is nine years younger than meryl and it doesn't seem to be an issue - story wise or casting wise

As other people pointed out, I think Streep will get 2 noms in the comedy/musical categogry, alongside Maya Rudolph, Renee Zellweger and Zoe Deschanel. Ellen Page could also take Deschanel's spot.

Meryl looks HOT... I actually found think this has potential to be alright... plus I love when Meryl gets high!

Jess, I reckon at least one of the Nine ladies will be bumped to lead for the Globes. They've shown affection for Sandra Bullock before so she's definitely in contention for Globe love with The Proposal plus Michelle Pfeiffer if they stick Cheri in musical/comedy. I'm sure I'm forgetting someone too. I doubt Maya Rudolf can make it, tbh.

amir... Officially it was Streep Supporting but unofficially everyone knows that it will become lead (since it is a lead and since she's the takeaway of the film and the reason it will be a huge hit)

is Academy Award nominee Steve Martin asking for too much?

plus, I think I guess why Steve Martin ain't given much to do in the trailer... I think his character may be gay.
