Their inaugural release is Jane Campion's romantic drama Bright Star (previous posts) (previous posts) and they'll follow it with Tree of Life starring Brad Pitt. The latter, Terence Malick's "mystical epic", was previously rumored to be delayed until 2010. There's no new release date but the Apparition press release indicates that it is arriving in 2009. Hopefully the release strategy will be less baffling than that afforded Malick's last picture The New World.

How has Terence Malick managed not to get an Oscar yet? I just love all of his films with the kind of fervent passion that makes me yell at people that interrupt me when I'm watching them. I know he's only done four films but they've all been outstanding. How The New World managed to escape nomination, especially Q'Orianka Kilcher for that great central performance, is a thing that makes my head want to explode a little bit.
Is there any truth to the rumour that Kimberly Pierce will direct Kidman in Danish Girl ?
Hope it's true, I had a feeling Kidman would want a female director to take on this project. Pierce or Susanne Bier would be fine.

I'd like to see jane campion win a oscar. Has anyone heard that John Hughes died? He made "ferris bueller's day off", "sixteen candles", "home alone", the career of molly ringwald and "the breakfast club".
I must say, I prefer the lesser Malick, Wendie. Her quiet yet powerfully scene-stealing turn as the inimitable Nina Van Horn on Just Shoot Me (a show in and of itself laden with the weight of no less than 74 Golden Globes of talent) surely rivals anything this Terrence person has ever done. Brava, Wendie...brava.

Ben, The New World's performance at the Oscars can be traced back to the baffling release strategy. Granted, it wasn't gonna be big, but it could've been bigger.
WHY THE HELL IS EVERYTHING STARRING BRAD PITT??? I'm sorry, Pitt is a decent actor but it kind of pisses me off that he is literally the "it" American actor right now, not only in terms of star wattage but apparently talent wise as well. What's even sadder is there's barely any other actor to duke him out for the title (Depp having been resigned to "quirky" roles only). Tarantino, Malick, what the hell!
The apparition of this year will be Sandra Bullock for The "blind" side, nobody is predicting her, and she looks great in the trailer...
