Glenn here from State Popcorn. I thought this would delight Cate Blanchett fans and enemies alike.
I think everybody's response to such a question would be "Omigod, why did you steal my grandmother's crocheted blanket?"
Cate Blanchett was in my city of Melbourne, Australia today at the opening of a new exhibit. Today was a wild and windy day here in Melbourne, raining bucket loads and sending a chill up the spine. I do, however, think Cate was taking things a bit too far. What do you think of this so-bad-it's-amazing-and-yet-still-quite-awful outfit? Do you wanna snuggle up next to Cate to keep warm or do you want to point and laugh? Either way, just remember that's she's probably still better than you. Aw.
A few more images of this over here.

Hmm.. it does look a bit.. odd.
But there's been celebs who've worn worse!
Quite opposite to Melbourne, Sydney was scorching today!
That's just one of the many things that's so great about her, she has the most bizarrely brillant presence on the red carpet. As a fan i think this awards season just won't be an awards season without Cate. Do the non-fans think so too??
It probably is the most interesting thing about her. Actually, second to "Do you wanna fuck me Barbara?".
I just like to be mean towards her. :p She likes Armani's fairs for God's sake. But she is a good actress. Especially when it comes to mimicry.
Oh my. That bump to the head did more damage than I thought. Get it together and see a doctor ASAP, Cate! That "frock" you're wearing is quite inexcusable. But we still love you dearly here in the States.
XOXO

It's just a dress, hey. It's just further proof that she looks stunning in anything.
I think it's charming.
Okay just go with me on this. I actually like the dress. The colors look great on her. Two things I would change...Take the long sleeve off and run the black trim from the opposite side along the seam, over her shoulder, and under her arm to make a second strap. Two, change the material of the dress but keep the same quilt pattern. I know it changes the designer's vision (Anyone know the desigerner?) but I think it would transform it from a strangely fascinating dress, to a phenomenally different and beautiful one. Did I say how fantastic those colors are on Cate?
I like!
Um...I was going to say that my mom had something similar draped across the back of our couch - back in 1974 - but then I realized that my Mom had much better taste than that. She crocheted her afghans in solid colors (ivory, brown, etc). But I know at least one of my relatives had such a throw in their house circa '74, along with avocado tupperware and old gold appliances and shag rugs.
In other words, it's the sort of thing that I left the '70's hoping I would never have to see again, thank you.
the good question is more :who is the dress designer who made the thing?
"Do you wanna snuggle up next to Cate to keep warm or do you want to point and laugh? "
the former. and y'all know i rarely feel like snuggling up to the goddess ;)
Perhaps I'm just giving away my straight-guy fashion cluelessness here, but ... I kinda dig it?
Then again, Blanchett would look hot in baggy sweats.
Is she going to an audition for Pirates 4 ?
"...I was going to say that my mom had something similar draped across the back of our couch - back in 1974..."
I was thinking that it actually looked quite a bit like the blanket that was draped across the back of the sofa in the Connor's living room in 'Roseanne' all those years...
Pomme, I actually read who designed it today, but I threw away the newspaper and now I don't know.
Everybody treats Blanchett like their talented older sister. They hate her publically and speak about her behind her back but deep inside they just want her to like them.
newest line of the snuggie!
