WHERE THE WILD THINGS ARE, because I just watched the trailer for the billionth time. I'm obsessed with everything involving this movie right now. I swear my eyes get misty each and everytime I see any of the trailers or commercials.
For Your Consideration, because I just saw it for the first time last night and enjoyed it more than most seem to. Catherine O'Hara is a national treasure. She was phenom as Marilyn Hack, and I loved her post-stardom Botox makeover. The moment she broke down after not getting the nomination was macabre, yet still truly touching. Catherine O'Hara really needs (and deserves) to be in more...if not everything.
Oh yes, and Ghost, because of Patrick Swayze. That movie is one of my all-time guilty pleasure favorites. I always wanted a guy like Sam. RIP Patrick. "(
Chéri and Being Julia...because both featured crazy good performances by their leads in May/December romances and both didn't get enough love...
I actually started thinking about Being Julia first because Mother & Child was in my head...then I started thinking that if it does get released they'll probably snub both Michelle and Annette.
Rachel Getting Married and The Sandlot. I was wondering if I could get it on Netflix then be able to burn it onto some DVDs to watch later. Actually, now, I'm thinking about Anne Hathaway's disastrous toast at the wedding rehearsal dinner and how I narrowly avoided the same situation at a friend's wedding.
"The Informant!" I'm struggling with the fact that -- to employ a phrase that was exhausted by a lot of critics after "Benjamin Buttons"s release last year -- it left me a little cold. It's well-shot, well-written, well-scored and very well-acted (I'm with the opinion that it's Matt Damon's best), but there's something about Soderbergh's dark comedy that always keeps you at arm's length emotionally. The grand delusions and haphazardly duplicitous nature of Damon's character are entertaining, but also frustrating. Such is an intended reaction, of course, but there is no catharsis in this film, no release from its zany, ironic, convoluted grip. Many may see that as a triumph but, for me, it made the film tough to love.
(Speaking of catharsis, thanks for letting me share.)
Cold Mountain, because I was thinking about how people who have been watching Sons of Anarchy and only know Charlie Hunnam's previous work from Undeclared really need to see Cold Mountain, Children of Men and the UK Queer as Folk to know that he's always been a lot more than just a pretty face.
"Lifeboat" has been stuck in my head ever since I first saw it last week. I now understand why people grouse about Tallulah Bankhead not being in more films.
Laura, because one of my friends last night had asked me, since I always ask people what their favorite movie is, what answer would most impress me, and I think it would be Laura.
Los abrazos rotos (I still don't really like the English title even if Almodóvar himself chose it, it seems to me it's more resounding in Spanish). The reason, there was a clip on a gossip show commenting Almodóvar's birthday party while I was thinking about writing something about Los abrazos rotos. I dismissed the idea.
Bright Star, which I plan to see this weekend. The NYTimes called Cornish ".....as good as Kate Winslet, which is about as good as it’s possible to be". That is the highest praise. Is she that good?
"Same Same But Different", because I just read that David Kross (of "The Reader") is headed for the London Academy of Music and Dramatic Art. Apparently, he plans on studying there for the next three years, which probably means that Same Same will be the last film we'll be able to see him in for quite some time...
"Paranormal Activity" because I've watched the trailer like 19 times and I can't wait to see it but I fear I"m going to overhype it in my head and be slightly disappointed like I was with "District 9" but I may not even have to worry about it b/c it's not scheduled to show in DC but I would rather see it in the theater than at home. MichaelinDC
"DANCER IN THE DARK" because I just recently found out Björk was nominated for an oscar...for acting. I had no idea she acted, I had to find out what movie it was. Turns out its like the only movie she acted in which is more than fine but I can't believe she gave an oscar worthy performance. I keep reading its a very sad movie which is completely fine with me. I need to see this.
@Juno101, Bjork was nominated for Best Original Song for "Dancer in the Dark," but not for her very Oscar-worthy performance. It's a travesty, really and now I'm thinking about it again...grrr...
AUSTRALIA which I finally watched the other night and how sad I am that Baz couldn't have allowed himself to go all out for the fairy tale he seemed to be going for in so many parts. I mean, it's just stupid sometimes unless you're playing with fairy tales. And how really good epics seldom have one villain who keeps showing up over and over again - that is so dumb, really and gets so tired when they're so one-dimensional - and how courageous Kidman's approach to the part was in the beginning and how I'm sorry it didn't get encouraged to sustain itself more and how Jackman is a leading man from the old days but needs a role that also includes some undercurrents - otherwise he gets a little boring too. I don't know - I guess I feel like it was such a miss with so many nice moments. God I hate it when things get close and have a real spirit and heart and then fail. I actually think there was more courage in parts of AUSTRALIA than there were in BENJAMIN BUTTON but I know that's gonna get some Booos.
"Broken Embraces" because It hasn't been selected to represent Spain as Best foreign language in the Oscars. It's a mistake, a big mistake. I don't like Almodovar, but I think If anyone in Spain has a chance to win, He is the right person. "Talk to her" wasn't selected too, and Almodovar won Best original Screenplay. I hope this year happen the same, and the Academy in Spain learn what they have to do with this great and admired director.
Bright Star. No, really. I was basically googling whatever articles I could find on it, and telling myself I REALLY shouldn't look at the movie clips on youtube, as to not the spoil the movie. And I won't even be able to see it until October 3. Life is unfair.
So thanks, Nathaniel! I check the Film Experience every day and it pretty much tizzles me to see anything Bright-Star related.
Inception, which is obviously a long way off. But I just saw some pictures of DiCaprio and Joseph Gordon Levitt on-set, and I lust after both of them to an embarrassing degree.
Mother and Child. Because of Jeffrey Wells' shockingly idiotic post where he admitted to not having seen the last 30 minutes of the film in order to go to an IFC party instead, but still blogged a rave review of it, saying it would get a best picture nomination. And then the next day retracted it because he saw the last 30 minutes and didn't think they were so great.
I weep for the future of film criticism if jackasses like these become the norm.

Come and See, the best War movie ever made.
I was reading an article from a friend about the WWII Pacific Front and picking images to ilustrate her paper.
^LOL! I was also thinking about Come and See.
And also, Precious.
Still Walking
probably one of the best movies I've seen this year.
A Single Man - I was hoping you had more info. on it :)
Dirty Dancing, for obvious reasons :-(

The Host. I rewatched my DVD the other day. I think Song Kang-Ho is my favorite actor. I can't look away from the guy. He's just fantastic.
Oh yes, and Ghost, because of Patrick Swayze. That movie is one of my all-time guilty pleasure favorites. I always wanted a guy like Sam. RIP Patrick. "(

a serious man, can't wait for this
Der Untergang (Downfall) because I just paused it to read some blogs (I'm a compulsive multi-tasker)
Bright Star, because it gets released this weekend and it's not playing anywhere near me, as usual.
Rachel Getting Married and The Sandlot. I was wondering if I could get it on Netflix then be able to burn it onto some DVDs to watch later. I thought, "I hope there's an updated post!"

'Antichrist' because I want to see it - I'm glad Willem Defoe has a good role. 'The Fall' because it should be arriving from Netflix today.
Bright Star. Because I just read A.O. Scott's review on it and his praise for Abbie Cornish. Can't wait to see it this weekend!
Dancer in the Dark
Why? Because I have an unhealthy obsession with von Trier and his women.
Bright Star, which I plan to see this weekend. The NYTimes called Cornish ".....as good as Kate Winslet, which is about as good as it’s possible to be". That is the highest praise. Is she that good?
Goodbye Lenin!, since I'm halfway through it.
I wasn't really thinking about a movie so much as returning to see that picture of Ellen Page and Drew Barrymore smooching.
"An Education" because I just got invited to an advanced screening. God, I love living in LA.
"Same Same But Different", because I just read that David Kross (of "The Reader") is headed for the London Academy of Music and Dramatic Art. Apparently, he plans on studying there for the next three years, which probably means that Same Same will be the last film we'll be able to see him in for quite some time...

Closer
Because of the Jude Law post after that.
God he's hot.
"DANCER IN THE DARK" because I just recently found out Björk was nominated for an oscar...for acting. I had no idea she acted, I had to find out what movie it was. Nine, because my sister's friend has a friend who worked in the post-production sound department for the film!!
@Juno101, Bjork was nominated for Best Original Song for "Dancer in the Dark," but not for her very Oscar-worthy performance. It's a travesty, really and now I'm thinking about it again...grrr...
robert hamer no judgements here. perfectly understandable!
Oh...well, that's a shame. I'm still excited to see the movie and I'm still very excited to see her performance.
The upcoming Harry Brown. I just read an article about Michael Caine's Oscar chances.
"Bright Star," having just read the NYT review. I'm now finally officially excited for a movie for the first time in a while.
Does anyone know where I can find a list of official release dates? I know it's opening in NY and LA today, but what about other major cities?
AUSTRALIA which I finally watched the other night and how sad I am that Baz couldn't have allowed himself to go all out for the fairy tale he seemed to be going for in so many parts. lylee, i'm working on an article explaining release dates so hopefully i can provide.
'The Wiz' cuz I'm listening to the soundtrack as I write this.
The Dark Knight and Moulin Rouge.
I just bought the posters for my room.
and then Tim Burton's Corpse Bride. I watched it last night and i always get a little sad at the end...even though it ends on a pretty note.
Thanks, Nathaniel!
Before that, was thinking about the awesomeness that is "Dirty Dancing" and how I really need to see it again.
Antichrist.I don't if I want to hug Lars or if I want lock myself in my bedroom and hide from his films.
Fanny and Alexander, Pan's Labyrinth, Spirited Away and The Wizard of Oz because I'm writing a paper on them.
"Stone", a movie directed by John Curran, starring Edward Norton and Robert De Niro!
The Talented Mister Ripley! Because of that delicious pic of Jude Law that was the firs thing I saw when I opened your blog. Yum!
"Broken Embraces" because It hasn't been selected to represent Spain as Best foreign language in the Oscars.
It's a mistake, a big mistake.
I don't like Almodovar, but I think If anyone in Spain has a chance to win, He is the right person.

oh, the bright star poster (which i thought you just attached to the post) was an ad. just kidding....
Inception, which is obviously a long way off. But I just saw some pictures of DiCaprio and Joseph Gordon Levitt on-set, and I lust after both of them to an embarrassing degree.
Mother and Child. I weep for the future of film criticism if jackasses like these become the norm.
The Tarnished Angels, because Self-Styled Siren has a great shot of Dorothy Malone from the film as her banner/header.
Away We Go - Desperately want to see that movie, but live in Spain and haven´t had a chance to yet.
Where the Wild Things Are. I don't know why.
i think on "un prophète" by Audiard because i just read the last paper on Oscar foreign movies
the talented mr. ripley. i was looking at jude law's photo. that's why. ;)
