the end of babette's feast...
I recently saw I Am Love (which is amazing) and there's a scene where Tilda Swinton, in extreme close-up, eats a prawn dish (risotto I think!) made for her by a young chef she's enamoured with, and it's such a great moment. It's a ripe, sensuous, (intentionally) OTT and dreamy moment and is one of the best food scenes I've seen in ages. It's my current film food fave!

And although it's not a movie, all the food scenes in Friends.
For me, and maybe it's obvious, it has to be the Big Kahuna Burger scene in Pulp Fiction.

Favorite Food Movie..."Big Night"
Belushi hitting his puffed out checks, shooting mashed potatoes out of his mouth, and proclaiming that he's a pimple! FOOD FIGHT!!!!

The food banquet scene in Myra Breckinridge. It is so completely out of place and makes no bloody sense, but I can't help but think of it whenever I reminisce on that train wreck of a movie.
"China tea. And ginger."
"Ginger, madam?"
"I'd like to give the children a treat."
"We'll have to go to London for ginger, Madam. I haven't finished this, and there's the rest of lunch to get ready."
"The 12.30 train, Nelly, will get you into London just after 1:00. If you return on the 2:30, you should be back in Richmond soon after 3:00. Do I miscalculate?"

"Well, then. Is something detaining you, Nelly?"
Combines two things I love. Food moments/calm, stiff and bitchy undressings. Love it.
The restaurant scene in eXistenZ, where Jude Law fashions a gun from "fish" bones. Absolutely disgusting.
Oh, without a doubt... When all the guests were eating everything in that first room of 'Willy Wonka & the Chocolate Factory'. I want to go to there.
I also wanted Ben Affleck to play with animal crackers on my stomach a la 'Armageddon'. :P

I hated Spanglish. I hated it a lot. But I want that sandwich that Adam Sandler made. Thinking about it makes me ravenous.

The nerd in me wants to say in "Return of the King" when Denethor savagely eats while Faramir and the other knights of Gondor go on a suicide mission and Pippin sings to entertain him.
In a similar vein, I love the way Michael C. Hall eats in the opening titles of Dexter showing how violent the details of our everyday routines are.

Besides that food-porn that is Julie & Julia...and I do LOVE Big Night.
I do love the presence of food in The Hours, a la The Know Nothing Know It All. From the scene pointed out to the cake with Julianne, the separating the eggs with Meryl, and the talk about the "crab thing" with the pay off at the end...wonderful!
But, the first thing that came to mind was from It Started In Naples where Clark Gable teaches his young Italian nephew about burgers. It's and adorable scene to watch, an Americano teaching an Italian about food.

@Garen. Ditto on Spanglish! That movie was repulsive in all kinds of ways, but that BLT and fried-egg sandwich was fabulous. It actually made my husband decide to give up kosher. Did you know Thomas Keller was the food consultant for that movie (and also for Ratatouille as well)
I'll repeat what someone said earlier, having seen I Am Love a few days ago, the prawn scene is, as Nathaniel said of the film, HOT PORN.
There is no doubt that my favorite food scene is Stanley Tucci making the omelet for Tony Shalhoub at the end of Big Night.
It's so elegant, so simple, so expressive of the relationship between the brothers.
More than that, it is Shalhoub who is the master chef. It is Shalhoub we have seen agonizing over food, lavishing love on food, preparing food, and presenting food, all through the movie. And there's the younger brother, perfectly elegant in the kitchen and feeding his brother in a way that is loving and tender and just says everything.
I love the food in Marie Antoinette, so majestically extravagant.
Least favorite food scene? Salo: 120 Days of Sodom.

Second on the Kahuna burger, and want to mention the cracked creme brulee scene in Amelie. Short, but sweet, like the whole film.

Wong Kar-wai is so good with food. He once said Su Li Zhen and Chow Mo wan only met in In The Mood For Love because they had to go out to buy noodles.
When instant noodles became popular, in mid-60's this romance would not happen.
Mid 70's, I mean. Cup noodles was introduced in 1971.

the awkward dinner scene in Edward Scissorhands when edward eats with the family for the first time.

I love Food Porn movies! Babette's Feast being my favourite, although if I had to choose a non-foodporn movie I'd go with the various montages in Marie Antoinette.
sure there've been some sumptuous meals onscreen, but i prefer the humor. what comes to mind is bette davis deciding whether to eat a chocolate or not while scurying around preparing for her party in all about eve. and, i would be remiss if i left out the infamous pizza parlor scene from the last dragon, flying dough and all.
Angel & the Know Nothing Know It All already mentioned my two choices - although for a third, I'd go with Chocolat. Obvious, yes, but the images of the molten chocolate being stirred were sensuous - and Juliette Binoche plus Lena Olin? If only it were a lesbian film, *sigh*
I don't love the scene but no one else mentioned it. Nine 1/2 Weeks.

The "steward" of Gondor in Return of the King, eating that grape tomato, and squirting it all over as he chews...
ooh, I don't wanna forget that super uncomfortable table scene in 4 Months 3 Weeks and 2 days while the phone is ringing and the girl is trapped...so brilliantly filmed.
I want Candy! Lots of royal pink cake for me :)
Favorite food scene? It would have to be making the sauce in prison in Goodfellas. Who doesn't want to try that sauce after watching him slice that garlic?

The scene in Julie & Julia where Meryl Streep and Stanley Tucci are out to dinner, deciding a future career for Meryl Streep over a lovely dinner. Stanley asks Meryl what she does well, and her response, with a mouthful of food, is 'EAT!' Priceless.
The jello in Jurassic Park that jiggles as the velociraptors walk by in the other room. So good.
...Baby Jane and the reveal of the lamb chop after the silver-trayed rat. Just watching Bette Davis chomp down on that rare, passive-aggressively prepared meat kills me every time. And then the fall out of her beloved sister not getting her din din because she didn't eat her lunch. That film is a smörgåsbord of eff'd up food moments.

The "Last Supper" parody in Buñuel's VIRIDIANA is my all time favorite movie scene involving food in of my all-time favorite films...
oh!... and in WAR OF THE ROSES when Kathleen Turner makes Micheal Douglas think he's eating his dog...
Every time I watch Wayne's World I want doughnuts.
And when I watch The Godfather 2 I want cake.

Edward Scissorhands, when Edward is cutting a huge block of ice and Winona character starts to dance while the snow flakes falls on her. Pure movie magic :)
Can it be that out of 54 comments no one mentioned that romp of a dinner sequence in TOM JONES, when Albert Finney and Joyce Redman seduce each other while ingesting all sorts of food?
But I think BABETTE'S FEAST is the finest food movie ever made--that I've seen, and I've seen a whale of a lot of movies.
The endless dinner and the cake sequence in the Ferzan Ozpetek's movie, in particular Facing Windows and Loose Cannons.
Also the chocolate cake in Practical Magic.
And all Marie Antoinette
@Anon 6:48 - I don't remember any chocolate cake in Practical Magic. I do remember pancakes and (magical) syrup,(boring plot point, but Nicole looked hot in those shades) and "midnight margaritas" (fun).
