Q: What do Warren Beatty, Ewan MacGregor, William Hurt, Buster Keaton, Gael Garcia Bernal, Dustin Hoffman, and Jeff Bridges all have in common?

A: Me.

Great list! Happy to see we share a similar affection for Jude Law (I say similar because on my list, I've already bumped him to the They inspire my eternal devotion category). Regardless of how troubled his personal and romantic life may be, I think he's the best actor within his age group, and one of the very best actors working today, period. I can't think of another actor who's had such an impressive body of work in recent (Gattaca, Wilde, The Talented Mr. Ripley, A.I., Road to Perdition, Cold Mountain, I Heart Huckabees, etc). Oh and he's just so darned BEAUTIFUL! :P

Love the list Nathaniel, but am I missing them or did you ignore Sidney Poitier, Karl Malden, and Rex Harrison? If they aren't on the list, what are your opinions of these three actors (one of which, Malden, I love, one of which, Poitier, I deeply admire, and one of which, Harrison, I can take or leave).

where is john cusack?? sure some of the films on his resume have been inconsistent (America's Sweethearts, Serendipity, Runaway Jury, Identity), but he has embodied some of the most interesting and compelling contemporary 'regular guy'roles in the past two decades (Say Anything, Being John Malkovich, High Fidelity, Grosse Pointe Blank, Bullets Over Broadway, The Grifters) so its hard to believe you're not a fan.

...Also, his sister Joan didn't make it on your list of women despite being a terrific character actress in movies like Broadcast News, Working Girl, In & Out, Men Dont Leave, School of Rock, and Addams Family Values (not to mention her HILARIOUS role as the girl with the back brace in Sixteen Candles). She hasnt been used right a lot recently but hopefully the new film she has coming out, the indie drama Friends with Money, with Jennifer Aniston, Frances McDormand and Catherine Keener, will bring her back to good form.

What do you think?

On your ladies chart, you left out Nicole Kidman...how the hell can you leave her out?

on the subjects of the Cusacks. I will add JOAN. Completely forgot her but she's definitely one of my favs. As for John, I've always been cool towards him. Though I do love his performance in The Grifters

Malden, Harrison, Lorre, and Poitier... I don't really have strong opinions of hence the lack of their inclusion. Maybe if I see more of their films?

As for Kidman, she's in the top 100 if you read the (50 more) list.

I can understand the sudden hat of Robert DeNiro, Tom Cruise, Tom Hanks and Kevin Spacey, but why the hatred of Jason Robards, Laurence Olivier and Humphry B (each of whom I have only seen 1 or 2 movies of but don't seen horribly enought to elicit hate)

Did I miss or did you not include James Stewart?

Stewart is in there (pretty high up)

I don't hate some of those men. I am just not wowed by them. The sudden hate thing is more about DeNiro, Pacino, Spacey... actors whose early work I think is A+ top notch followed by... just ick. I can't watch them.

Shouldn't Ewan McGregor and, especially, Tony Leung be on the 'RIGHT NOW, WILL THE LOVE LAST?' list or are they already proven greats in your eyes?
I just find it hard to comprehend that on the womens list for this section you have Ingrid Bergman, Vivien Leigh and Meryl Streep and here you have Ewan bloody McGregor.
Do you really like him that much?
Have you not seen him in 'Down With Love'?

I second the question about Ewan. I love him too (really I do) but I'm rather ambivalent on whether he's really a "great" actor. I suspect maybe he's just a whole lot of fun.
The only thing I've seen Ewan in where I thought he was indisuptably great was Moulin Rouge!. And I must say, in many other projects where I thought he was lots of fun and great to watch (The Pillow Book, Velvet Goldmine, Down With Love, etc.), the technical things, accents and such, were rather spotty.
I still love him, but I think he still needs to prove himself before he becomes a "great" in my book. He certainly might be. But I'm still not sure.

Tony Leung is a god to me so I can't think rationally. I think he's a great actor (genuinely I do)plus one of the most beautiful people (male or female division) on the entire planet.

Ewan MacGregor... maybe I'm too kind. But I have adored him from day one (Shallow Grave) I like his film choices (Moulin Rouge! / Young Adam / Velvet Goldmine, etc...) and he's practically the only actor I could stomach in the Star Wars prequels... plus, as you note, tons o' fun. Not something that a lot of actors can claim.

But I see your point.
