blog-a-thons ahoy!

Are you beat on blog-a-thons? I have been but the fatigue is wearing off. I'm (almost) jonesing to host one again. Shall I ... What say ye? And what topic would you love to see the dozens of bloggers cover all at once? Here are some upcoming collective celebrations hosted by other film blogs.

June 29th ~ July 3rd I Like New York in June (NYC and the Movies)
July 9th ~ 13th "All About Me" the Self-Involvement blog-a-thon (intensely personal reactions to the movies and whatnot)
July 28th Rugrats child performances in the movies
Aug 12th Nonzee Nimibutr (Thai New Wave auteur)
Aug 22nd ~ 24th "Movie About Movies"

Isn't that terribly redundant, though? What else is the blogosphere all about EXCEPT intensely personal reactions - to the cinema and everything else?

Nathaniel: Thanks for the link!

Janice: Yes, in a way, but I hope not. My goal is for writers to get more personal than they're comfortable with. Much cinema writing has an air of authority and detachment, and I want to get past that. Put a different way: Most film writing is movies filtered through the self; I want the self filtered through movies.

Movies about movies definitely! It's always interesting to see Hollywood's self-centered streak ;o)

I, too, hate most child actors. But I do enjoy Alfred Lutter as Ellen Burstyn's kid in Alice Doesn't Live Here Anymore. "Shoot the dog!"

Culture snob, thank you for the clarification.

I hate child actors too, except for Dakota Fanning, of course.

Jamie and Saoirse aren't too happy about this post's comments. And they know karate. Well, probably. I mean, they're both insanely awesome, so why not?

erich of course! I believe it's only through the force of her talent and willpower that the earth keeps on spinning. She hasn't been making any movies because all of her might are keeping the polar ice caps from melting

oh and Jamie is no longer a "child actor"

so he's safe from the generalization. but yes he was awesome.

Thanks for the link!

Stealing from a review I read somewhere of the Cat in the Hat movie, I do not like that girl Dakota/I do not like her one iota."

I think for me it's less that I dislike child actors and more that I find the treatment of childhood in American films to be sentimental and precious to the point of inanity. But give me Francois Truffaut's Small Change or those glorious interludes in Powell and Pressburger's A Canterbury Tale and I'm all yours.

Wise Kwai is sponsoring a Nonzee Nimibutr blog-a-thon for the month of August. Time to Thai one on!

Thanks for mentioning me! And the Self-involvement blog-a-thon sounds perfect for me. I've always been pretty terrible at traditional criticism and film reviewing and whatnot, so now I have the perfect excuse to write self-indulgently about my movies!

Someone in the Rugrats-a-thon should do a piece on the transition from child actor to adult actor, the successes and the tragedies.
