It happens from time to time.
Came in from the cold, fed the cat and the next thing you know. There she is. Juliette Lewis filling every nook and cranny of me brain.
<-- 8 year-old Juliette kissing Clint Eastwood. She is (literally) a child of Hollywood.
When actresses invade my consciousness to that degree I immediately surrender to the moment: Think about the last time I saw them (Whip It in this case which was such fun), look at pictures or videos, surf the web to find out what they're up to. In Juliette's case she's still plugging away at that music career (her last record Terra Incognito hit in September) and she's filming or was filming Due Date, Todd Phillips' follow up to The Hangover.
We'll also see her next year in Betty Anne Waters, the latest Hilary Swank vehicle. I have no idea how big her role will be but I hope she shares a scene with fellow Whip It alum Ari Graynor, to ably demonstrate that they're the two coolest people in the movie... give or take Sam Rockwell.
Who takes up more space in your brain than you can justify or explain?

Lewis, huh… I’ll never be able to shake her quiet yet chilling scenes opposite De Niro. Fewww
As for myself… hmmm, I’d actually have to say EDIE FALCO. And not just cause her work as 'Carmela Soprano' (particularly in season 4’s “Whitecaps”) could easily rival Diane Lane, Imelda Staunton, Nicole Kidman and Kate Winslet for best female performance of the decade, but everything about her acting is so undeniably watchable and memorable. From her pitch-perfect line readings—
- “When you ignore me Tony… it makes me feel unloved!
- “Jesus Christ almighty I’m going fucking crazZzy!”
- “I. DON’T. LOVE. YOU. ANYMORE!”
—to subtle shifts in emotion (“Sunshine Sate”, "Freedom Land", “Nurse Jackie”) the woman is just impossible to shake. I’ll just be walking along to the subway or day dreaming in class and suddenly one of her scorching scenes just takes me away. And yet, she still seems trapped on the small screen!?! I constantly find myself checking IMDB in hopes of seeing she’s landed a juicy (film) role that will finally take her from the Emmys to the Oscars.
Quentin Tarantino.
It must be partly because he is so accessible, and entertaining. It's like he's a multiple purpose personality. He's a director, a writer, a film historian, a critic, a film buff, and even still is like the guy at the video store who suggests great stuff. He doesn't feel remote. So I'm happy when he's on a roll, cringe when he goes off on a tangent.
My reservations are that there's a scene in each of his movies that I hate. But I can't think of any other equally accessible recent personality that when you look at them, they re-direct your attention to the movies themselves. I like that.
It's always been Christina Ricci like that for me. She has so many quotable lines from different movies that I like to use. She takes fantastic photos, capable of pulling off both blonde & brunette. Kind of an underrated thespian nowadays. I still think she could have a long career though, maybe more in charactor actor work.
Absolutely Emma Thompson. I have Emma Thompson moments every month or so. She is great in absolutely everything she has ever done, from acting to writing, from period pieces to Shakespeare to Angels in America. She needs to make more movies.
ryan -- just noticed your new photo. MONTY CLIFT forever!
and I do think Edie Falco is pretty entrancing too. Love her as Nurse Jackie.
Ele -- yeah!
hey maybe the secret to actresses you can't shake is, as Ryan says, the line readings.
For some unidentifiable reason, Penélope Cruz takes up a small portion of my brain on a daily basis.
Seriously, it's like a play-by-play of her most iconic scenes. On a rainy day, I conjure up images of her "singing" that tune from Volver or kissing Scarlett Johansson.
Hell, I wasn't even aware I was bisexual til A Call from the Vatican!
I have the same relationship with Juliette Lewis.
There is something about her. I feel so close to her because she seems to be so open and willing to connect to people throught her art (singing or acting).
mr. goodbar
I think I'll go an unusual way, and say that right now is one of the guys in Without a Trace. Enrique Murciano, that's it. Had to look it up on IMDB, and now that I've learned it he'll probably go out of my head.
Some months ago it was Sean Penn who as much as I love him as an actor, was creepy in my mind.
Kathleen Turner, obviously...
