One of the most brilliant things about Dame Helen Mirren has to be how lively and famously sexy she still is in her 60s. It surely has to do with comfort in her own skin since she doesn't seem to be trying to come across like some fresh 45 year-old. One can't really imagine her ordering up plastic surgery or botox. Is that why seeing her pose with her wax self amuses so?
This statue is one of the newbies at Madame Tussaud's in London. Have you ever been there? I went only once here in NYC and found it all surprisingly amusing. I was stunned to find that RuPaul got quite the goddess centerpiece treatment. And this was a couple of years before RuPaul's comeback on RuPaul's Drag Race.
Despite only entering the tourist trap once, I regularly see their statues outside since they're very close to one of the biggest multiplexes here. Waxy Leonardo DiCaprio is hanging outside right now in a suit.

Been there a few times. It's a lot of fun.
I've been too, only once, but I'll go back again now that Dame Helen is there :-)
It is surprisingly fun indeed. Too bad you wait in line so long, by the time you get in there you forget what you waited for.
I was at the NYC Tussauds during my visit back in 2007. Some great stuff there, but I remember the Madonna statue being particularly terrible!
I've never been there, but I'd definitely go to see Helen, she is absolutely gorgeous - both as her wax and her real self. :-P And they clad her in one of my favourite dresses of hers! ♥♥♥
Ummm, I can't tell which one is the wax figure. embarrassed
I've been to the London one. Pretty good though I don't remember much. For some reason I can only recall the royalties (in general, not specific ones) and Jerry Hall(??).
But: Who is RuPaul and why is Helen standing next to Cindey Lauper?
i'm with Rex. i could barely tell the difference!
Is it just me or does the wax figure have Samantha Morton eyes?
Sorry to be a buzzkill, but I thought the one in DC was just too boring to be believed.
And the combo of the president nearby Miley Cyrus (or one of her ilk) was less clever than nauseating.
I was staring at another picture of this moment earlier this morning for like ten minutes straight and I couldn't tell which was the real Helen. Now that I've seen a few shots and The Real Helen Mirren moves around in them I know, but I don't blame anybody for not having a clue just off of one. The statue is maybe the best one of their s that I've ever seen. Some are so ridiculously lousy. Here's a fun list of some of the worst ones ever. That Tom Cruise one is unbelievable.
LOL, JA. WHY DOES SANDRA BULLOCK'S LOOK LIKE HUGO WEAVING?!
Okay, now I've seen some other pictures on Gawker, and the one in red is the real Helen Mirren (she's kissing the wax figure). If I had to guess, I would have thought it'd be the other way around. The one in black looked more life-sized and properly proportioned, while the one in red looked too thin. That's kind of awesome that the real deal at Mirren's age still looks better than the replica! That's some freaky shit people!
The Tussaud's in London is waaayyy better than the poor lame one in NYC, which was sadly in need of refurbishing when I went there about a year ago. Tussaud's London also had a sort of London history ride and you can glimpse the storage area where some of the older heads and figures reside, like H.G. Wells, Thomas Hardy, etc.
