What a moment! And one of the very key scenes to unlocking the mystery (or, the parts of the mystery that are solvable - the rest are like dog whistles, undecipherable).
Brilliant. I know they're from two different years, but I feel like in 50 years, people are going to look at Naomi Watts's Mulholland Drive performance and her 21 Grams performance and say "She gave THIS performance and the Academy nominated her for THAT one?!" Bizarre.
I wish this movie never happened. Can you imagine how great these series would be? We would see Mulholland Dr. for years!
This ending is just a device to give a meaning for the whole thing (Watts loved Laura, was rejected, killed Laura and dreamed they were still together).
The idea of this universe getting new elements every week is fascinating. It'd be the best show ever.
One of my favorites! I'm kinda terrified about the whole 'Mulholland Dr. 2' things. But I guess Lynch must have mapped the story out a bit in case the pilot went anywhere.
I'm sure I'm alone here, but I think Naomi's performance in 21 Grams is one of the best ever. In my opinion, in Mulholland Dr, she seemed to be overdoing it a bit in the beginning. Her audition is great, but I think the best part of her MD performance is when she's rehearsing for said audition in the kitchen.

My sister just watched Mulholland Drive and hated it. I question if there's a relation between us.

Don't you all want Lynch back on tv?
I do.
cal -- i speak only for myself (and my legion of alters) but all of us scream YES.
the pretentious -- 50 years? I was doing that as early as it happened ;)

That scene was indeed very cruel.
The smear of lipstick left on The Girl's mouth after the kiss is what makes it. A nothing image out of context, so carnal and obscene within it.

I'll forever love and be intrigued by MD even after so many great people trying to decipher it.

BeRightBack -- right. And i love that it's only half way and reverse halved on each lip. Lynch's movies have so many exquisite mysterious details.
and more than any filmmaker he understands dreams and dreaming.
