jude law as a creep, no doubt.
Two great great performances in a film not worthy of them.
'Ray! I've been on an A.I. kick lately, so this is entirely appropriate.
I would watch this over "Schindler's List" any day.
I know alot of people have problems with the ending, but I didn't mind it at all. It's a beautiful movie, and I cried like a little baby. Haley Joel and Jude were great, but my favorite performance was from Frances O'Connor.
And oh how i want my own Teddy.
A.I. is a slam dunk masterpiece. Haley should have got an Oscar nomination for his performance. Jude Law's best role. Utterly brilliant film. One of my Top 5 favorite films EVER!
Meh. A lot of people rag on the end and while the end is indeed one of the most baffling and downright stupid things I saw that year, the start of the movie wasn't all that interesting either.
But there was excellent stuff going on, but it didn't all work. The Rouge City bit was fantastic.
I had very similar thoughts on Spielberg's Minory Report.

I hated AI as some of you know but these two... love. and bits of it worked wonders. I've often considered rescreening it to see if i was wrong about it or if it holds up or changes or what... but can't quite bring myself to do so given how much i hated the non Haley/Jude everything.

I believe I'm in the camp that thinks it didn't quite work, despite all those interesting ideas... but I'm not sure. I might like it if I saw it now. I don't remember being THAT upset about the ending.
Meh. Whatever. Even if it WAS really good, it still can't touch Moulin!/Mulholland/Gosford/Hedwig/FOTR/In The Mood For Love.

So what grade would you have given A.I.? C+?
It's very very good. On Spielberg, just consider E.T. and before, and A.I. and after. The middle oh his career is very bad, the extremes are marvelous.

Are u seeing "Curse..." soon? Gosh, can't wait for all those grades, actually.
I'm a big fan of A.I.; it is a mess, but it's a fascinating one I can watch over and over. Just the clash of such diametrically opposed director's sensibilities... it's really very fascinating.
Spielberg is in a rut if you ask me that started right after Saving Private Ryan. War of the Worlds was atrocious and the worst movie of his I've ever seen, The Terminal was blah, AI was really bad in a lot of places, I wasn't terribly impressed with Minority Report either and he produced Flags of Our Fathers.
Catch Me If You Can was fine, but about half an hour too long.

You really should watch it again, I think you'll be surprised. And literally every person I know you watched it twice ended up liking, if not loving, it. It's a masterpiece, I think.
This movie bores me like hell.
It's one of the most powerful and intelligent American films of the last 20 years. See it again!!

I did a 180 on A.I. when I saw it a second time, Nat. FWIW.
Conversely, my opinion of it decreased with a second viewing. That said, it's certainly among the most discussable films of the new decade.
God, what a brilliant film.
