I just got in from voting. I hope my readers in the USA will do the same today. I'm totally nervous because this great nation has shown a strange and confusing six year habit of voting for more of the same (disaster. deficit. war. torture. hate and fear mongering. wealth-coddling. personal freedom infringements. etcetera) rather than asking for change.
Anyway... I apologize for the light / linkheavy posting. I hope to return to normal soon. Normal = cinematic obsessing.
What to look for when I get my mojo back
Oscar Talk -lots of it. Nicole Kidman & Nicole Kidman & maybe some Nicole Kidman. Personal Canon: A Top 100 Movies Countdown (starting from scratch. I'm gonna borrow Nick's approach because I've noticed that I'm far more likely to review films I don't like rather than films I love and that just ain't right!) Thoughts on current releases like Volver, Fur, The History Boys, The Children of Men and more. The completion of the Moulin Rouge! chapter-by-chapter analysis. And the return of most of the popular blog series as well as reader requests.
Don't mind me. I'm just thinking (and hoping) aloud. Carry on with your day.

Oh god, a person canon right from the start again! YES! And more reviews! YES! And enough Nicole Kidman to stuff a turkey! YES! Movie goodness is one of the best pressies.
I'm such a nervous wreck today, too, Nat. I can't focus on anything, and it's way too early to be checking CNN every thirty seconds but I keep doing it anyway. This is gonna be a very distracted day.
I don't worry as much since I'm from Texas and I don't expect any type of major change (sigh), but I do hope that some good comes from today.
I'm not a voter today - being in Britain, but I'm wishing you guys luck.
Hopefully today will be a turning point towards a better America.
It's pretty boring here in San Francisco, no close races to watch and it looks like another term for the Governator. I predict a record low turnout at the polls here.
Just saw Borat over the weekend. It was funny at points, but I didn't think it warranted all the foam-at-the-mouth praise by the critics. The audience that I saw it with also seemed to like it, but not LOVE it. There was polite, if unenthusiastic, applause at the end.
Glad to hear you got out early and voted, Nathaniel, even though it looks like our side (at least here in NYC) will take it easily. I voted as well, because I want it to be a slam-dunk.

yeah, gotta love the american setup where votes only really matter in the swing states.
what a sucky system.
Thanks Nat, More on Nicole Kidman please... you have never had enough of Nicole Kidman,,, dedicate a week for the lady please.. thank you very much
Hey Nat -- a poll worker, home now from lovely Montgomery County, MD where at least we did our part having recently become a swing state. We'll see what happens here... *fingers crossed*
(Oh yeah -- and I'm pleased as punch that you tagged me for the meme! Will reply tomorrow when I have my brain back...)
from my first reply: personal*
America's voting system is wacky. The mere fact that you don't even have to vote is mindboggling. Crazy, too.
Oh my, more Nicole Kidman? lol, unlike anonymous above, I've had more than enough Nicole Kidman for a lifetime I think.
Don't take this as a real complaint though. I'm just jealous for all the wonderful actors that don't seem get her level of coverage, including on this blog...
Anonymous 11:40, that's because that's what most of them are, simply "wonderful actors" and nothing more. Kidman, is divisive in every way, with her work and personality. You mention Kidman and a debate start with people delivering passionate views on her, love her or hate her, you will have something to say (even people convinced they can take her or leave her spend time writing their feelings on her and falling on either category).
Here in the UK, no year goes by without 3 major broadsheets discussing her, not even the greatest British actors/actresses get that much write-up. This has been her quietest year professionally but you wouldn't know that. No one can say what she is, movie star or character actress, auteur's dream or studio chick? There are actresses that fall into the same sphere as her but they simply fail to generate much interest beside the "great actress/actor" thing.
anonymous 1. please note: this blog takes requests. i am totally promiscuous with actor and actress coverage...
if there is someone you think nobody ever talks about and should, i'll consider it.
Anonymous 3:05 - blech, you actually illustrate well how overcovered she is.
Nathaniel - I have no one in particular in mind at the moment, but I'll keep it in mind.
Anonymous 3:05 PM, I agree with everything you just said about Kidman. I lean towards the loving her part because you cannot really PIN her down as to what type of actress she is. I love talking about her.
Nathaniel, why not cover the work of Chad Lowe? Just to saucily make fun of The She-Devil Swank.
Discussing Chad Lowe is no fun for anybody, quite frankly.
I want more Nicole Kidman please... make it a Nicole Kidman's week...
Ano 3:05, thanks for reminding me why i am so intrigued by Ms. Kidman..
