Time for a completely useless poll! But polls are fun, yes?

Bette Davis is my favourite movie star and I hate to be overly negative, but there's something a little off about that stamp. It seems like her face is too large for her features, or something. She also looks like she's had copious amounts of plastic surgery. That said, it's cool that she's finally getting a stamp and if they were available here, I'd buy ten of 'em - but c'mon, it's Bette frickin' Davis, is it that hard to make her look vaguely human?

It's like a patch of the right side of her face (cheek to eye) is being played by Baby Jane while everything else is played by Margo.

I gotta ask my grandmother to mail me using this stamp next time.......

I can see Meryl getting a stamp for sure. Out of those names though, I'd most like to see Sissy Spacek get one.

I agree with Catherine.

The showing for Sissy Spacek is very poor, but wouldn't you love to have Carrie on your post.

There's Meryl - and there's everyone who wishes she was Meryl. No contest.

one of the ways to get stamp is call 1-800-STAMP-24 and order a sheet. It comes out September
18th. If you live in Boston, they'll be doing a special ceremony on that day.

You didn't count on Nicole Kidman.

It's her.

Meryl's the one who would get a stamp, and Meryl's the one who deserves a stamp. No contest. She's Bette's heir apparent in more ways than one.

Nicole Kidman would get an Australian stamp. But if part of the qualification for this thing is that the recipient have a career that endures into later life, then Kidman has not shown that yet.

The only other one I could maybe see on a stamp is Susan Sarandon, with her trademark persona, intelligence, and activism being the rationale.

But really, it's Meryl.

adam k. said...

But then isn't Sarandon a bit too much of a maverick to be on a stamp? I dunno, to me there's something sort of inherently old-fashioned, conservative and classic about being on a stamp. That's just me.

Then again, was Bette Davis those things?

SIGOURNEY WAEVER HAS AN ICONIC ROLE IN RIPLEY IF EVER SOMEONE WAS IN NEED ORL IKELY TO SHE IS IT,NONE OF THE OTHERS HAVE ROLES BY WHICH THE CHARACTER NAME IS KNOWN.

Catherine said...

MRRIPLEY, I disagree. Carrie? Clarice Starling? Bonnie Parker? Annie Hall? They're all well known as characters.

i buy stamps about once every fou r years, for the rare greeting card i mail. luckily, there was a 37c Garbo stamp then, and there's a 42c Bette stamp now that i'm about to run out. fate.

Cinesnatch said...

Although not technically part of the Legends series, I forgot about Garbo. I'm going to count her anyway. Okay, the Davis Stamp is #5. It's not as stunning as my favorites, but it's the best edition to the series since Garbo

1. Hitchcock
2. James Dean
3. Garbo
4. Monroe
5. Bette Davis
6. Lucille Ball
