Here's the trailer for The Lovely Laura Linney's Showtime series The Big C which co-stars Gabourey Sidibe and Oliver Platt. They seem to be attempting to jam all the TLLL trademarks into one series...

Acerbic wit, sympathetic mortality drama, half-assed romance and of course... the sister act. It's all there. And nobody does the sister act better you must admit.

It is so sad that Dennis Hopper has to be dying to receive his Walk Fame star

those Dennis Hopper pictures give me pain...oh, man.

and a sequel to Eastern Promises? i have no idea where they are going to go with that, but i'm so happy. i hope they at least bring Cassel back. i just loved him in the original.

and oh, Jude Law...he looks like one of those guys who treats you like shit, but you always keep going back for more because it's just so good.

God, I wish I had Showtime.

It's gratifying to see Hollywood slowly pull that collective stick out of its ass and give jobs to people like Gabourey and Amber Riley.

There's only so much Queen Latifah one man can take.

OMG, just by watching that trailer i believe I may have found my future favorite show. CANNOT WAIT!

PS: If Laura Linney ain't proof there's a God, I don't know what is.

I thought Gerwig was no good in House of the Devil. But she was memorable enough that I'll give her another chance.

Oh, I see Meryl Streep's daughter Grace Gummer in Tom Hanks twitpic. Can't wait to see her in a movie.

that Neil Cameron link is awesome - I love H with Hagar Hacking Hello Kitty in half. It's fun indeed.

I was thinking that Showtime should do a new show with Mary Louise Parker, Laura Linney and Toni Collete and name it something like Desperate Housewi... Oh, right.

If Laura has to be on tv, at least she's on Showtime (and we'll get to watch TLLL every week), and the show and the trailer look good. And I love what she says to Gabby:

"You can either be fat and jolly or a skinny bitch, it's up to you".

Laura's so good, and that was only 3 min of her!

Nice to see Phyllis Somerville in what appears to be a prominent role after some time. :)

Completely off-topic, but is that Kaye Ballard third from the left on the marquee?

Interesting news about Eastern Promises 2 - not sure how I feel about it. Is there any real need?

Just wrote a little piece on Cronenberg - his future plans are always changing!...hopefully the Talking Cure is definitely next.

Am I the only person who noticed In a Lonely Place playing in the background in that old woman's living room (film nerd-dom knows no bounds)?

And also, my favorite line in that trailer: "I'm only having dessert and liquor." You gave me one year to live, and I'd be doing the same.

I want Showtime !

I just realized that I might be actressexual for Laura Linney.

Of all the Cronenberg movies to get a sequel... Eastern Promises? Can Viggo and Vincent have sex in this one, maybe?

It breaks my heart to see Dennis Hopper in that condition. :(

And here's an awful cancer-related segue. Can't wait to see "The Big C" and Laura Linney in it! The trailer was all I needed to get onboard with it. Showtime is the destination for actresses of a certain age for the television dramedies (Mary-Louise Parker, Edie Falco, Toni Collette, and now Laura Linney).

caden -- my work here is done :)

@Dylan - I don't have Showtime either (or cable of any sort) but I DO have a Netflix subscription and love it. My SO and I tend to watch half a season of a given show in a single sitting (Weeds, United States of Tara), but I love being able to watch that much Mary-Louise Parker, Toni Collette - and Nurse Jackie with Edie Falco is up next on our queue. Even if that means having to wait a year or more for The Big C, I've got lots to occupy me until then.

I love that "TV" (I think I'm dating myself with that term) has gotten wise and is giving opportunities to actresses. I wish there'd been something like this in the '80's and '90's and then maybe Debra Winger, Michelle Pfieffer, etc, would never have gone away.

Just checked the link to popbytes btw - I didn't know that Hopper was dying. The pictures reminded me of the first time I saw my grandfather dying of cancer in the hospital. that really is just too sad. Especially when photographed next to the hefty (and apparently healthy, if a bit overweight) Jack Nicholson. Hopper had such a brilliant comeback with Blue Velvet.
