And finally. By now everyone and their grandma have heard that Heath Ledger will be playing "the Joker" in the sequel to Batman Begins, called The Dark Knight. Can anyone explain to me why people are upset by this? Didn't he JUST BARELY prove himself a phenomenal actor in a role that seemed to surprise just about everyone (other than people who noticed how good he was in his bit in Monter's Ball). One month they're comparing you to Brando... the next month nobody thinks you can do a role that's different than your last one. It's tough out there.

yea, i think this is a good chance for heath to do something different and when we see heath be scary it'll be a new thing for us, just like it is for the character-Batman.

I think Scarlett as a Reebok's spokesperson is kind of bizarre, but hey...i'll go with it, it's better than Jessica Simpson.

For some reason I'm turned off my the idea of Ledger as the Joker. It might just be because I'm sick of hearing about him. I liked him before Brokeback, and now I'm sick of him.

What? Who is upset about Ledger? This casting made sense to me instantly. I mean, anyone who's seen him in interviews knows what a fidgety frantic nut he actually is. PLUS he's a brilliant actor. He'll be great.

I'd like to reserve opinion until I see the performance. But, frankly, can you really see them f$cking up the sequel? I can't. It's not it's being directed by McG and staring Halle Berry.

People are up in arms over this? I didn't know. Lame. Like they aren't more important things in the world like what's going on in the Middle East, they have to get their tidies in a bunch over Heath Ledger playing the Joker. If Robin Williams had been cast, then I would have seen a problem. But, this, geez.

Yeah, this makes sense. As Adam says he has that fidgetty thing down pat plus THAT GRIN!

That means Christian will have co-starred with Heath Ledger in two movies (including the linked Bob Dylan biopic).

Can't wait for each of these films.

Am I the only one disappointed by the new Batman franchise? In making things more "realistic", they're stripping the villains of their dramatic, iconic power.

The treatment of the Scarecrow was disastrous in Batman Begins.

It's going to be a serious challenge for Ledger to escape from the shadow of Jack Nicholson's interpretation? But who knows? Maybe Ledger will play the Joker more in line with Frank Miller's very disturbing interpretation.

I guess we'll just have to wait.

Ledger has more often been lackluster or bad than he has been good. Knight's Tale anyone?

The Brando comparisons were over the top anyway, let him prove himself to be more than a one hit wonder and then we'll see...

As for playing Joker? Jack is indeed tough act to match, but I think ole Heath can at least keep up with Bale, if nothing else. The fanboys that are now up in arms should be ignored anyway, if Nolan had listened to them we would have Mark Hammill as the "clown prince of crime" or something equally as idiotic. Wonder how many "Brokebat Mountain" jokes the KKK wing of Batman fandom will think up? I've already seen some wanking about "homosexual Batman" on that bastion of good taste, IMDB.

Not really that interested in seeing a sequel to Batman Begins, though. That movie was okay, but nothing amazing.
