The Little Children Trailer

UPDATE: Link to Trailer

Yesterday I went to two movies but the highlight of the day was seeing the trailer for Little Children. I just about did a standing ovation.

The trailer is inspired and evocative and showcases (if I'm remembering it correctly) Kate Winslet in a red bathing suit, Patrick Wilson sans shirt, and Jennifer Connelly in bed. They all look positively luscious... and if you've read the book you'll know that all three are cast superbly. I wish that I could link to it but I can't find it on the internet yet. It manages to set up the central adulterous romance between two parents and smartly opts out of much dialogue. Instead it uses Patrick's little boy and his toy train sound cue "chugga-chugga-chug" --this train is headed for a collison --to set up the story's escalating tensions. Love it. If the film delivers on the promise of this trailer, we have a real winner.

This trailer is so sophisticated and smart that I fully expect people to hate it. I remember quite well how brilliant I thought the The Devil Wears Prada trailer gamble was (just that scene of the two main characters meeting, what a setup. YES. I want to see more) but there were a number of people who thought that that was a foolish way to sell your movie. I love unconventional approaches. Most of all I love trailers that give me a feel for what the movie will be like moodwise and leave the rest to my imagination. Please don't bore me with the plot. This is an appetizer not the meal.

Little Children opens on October 6th in NY and LA.

Can we make a public service announcement pact as soon as one of us finds it posted somewhere?

It simply must be seen!

Deal?

I'd be willing to pay the $10 for Trust the Man just to see this trailer. It's probably the movie I'm most looking forward to seeing this fall (I LOVEd the book and I LOVE Patrick Wilson and Kate Winslet) and this has me even more excited than I already was! Yay.

damn it, damn it, DAMN IT!!!

i finished this book in two days, which i hardly ever do anymore. heard about the movie, picked up the book a few months ago, and started reading it two weeks back. the next day at work, i read the final two hundred pages in the span of about three-four hours and i was FLOORED.

the last paragraph of the novel is one of the most... beautiful endings to a novel i've read in years.

WHY THE FUCK ISN'T THE TRAILER ON HERE YET?!?!!?
(but i have to admit i'm very glad to hear it's released at all, i was terrified of finding out it'd gotten pushed back.)
i'm catching this movie on it's opening night in l.a. i have to.
lord, did i LOVE that novel.

I've been waiting for this trailer forEVER! Yes, they ARE all superbly cast. I just finished the novel and the whole time I was reading it, I was picturing those three actors. This is because I know there were playing the roles, but I'm like 90% certain I would've pictured them anyway. Perect perfect casting opportunities.

I unfortunately just made GG bes pic predictions that shut out Little Children cause I thought and still kinda think that it will turn off too many people to get mass appeal out of, like, acting and writing. There are just so many pitfalls and landmines to avoid in making this film. It would be SO easy to screw up. But this gives me hope.

I'm also assuming then that this trailer was more memorable than the entirety of Trust the Man. Eh... can't win 'em all.

I watched Little Miss Sunshine last week and did not have the fortune to see the Little Children trailer. However, I had the good fortune to see Little Miss Sunshine, so I can't complain.

Just wanted to mention... the sight of Patrick Wilson and Kate Winslet kissing is possibly my favorite bit of heterosexual viewing EVER.

Thank you, Nathaniel. Wherever it came from.

Now THAT is how you cut a trailer!

This was already high on my most-anticipated list, but it just shot to the very top spot.

Trailer of the year. Well, it's a tough call between this, Marie Antoinette and The Science of Sleep for me.

My favorite part was when Jenn Connelly gives Winslet that evil glare. I smell Oscar.

Yeah, that look from Connelly towards Wilson was extravagant.

Yeah, Winslet, Wilson and Connelly were all positively delicious here. Notice how Connelly is billed above Wilson. Annoying. Thought she looks fab here.

I haven't been this excited to see Winslet in something since, well, Eternal Sunshine two years ago. And I haven't been this excited to see Patrick Wilson and JConn since... well, ever.

You know, Patrick Wilson COULD be this year's VIggo... OR he could be this year's Tom Wilkinson. It looks like the critics will decide. I am hoping for the latter. In fact all three might be nommed. I'm feeling like they'll all get big focused campaigns. One of the unknown supporting actors may rise up, also.

But my favorite part of this trailer? The kids. They are PERFECT. Just how I pictured. So adorable. That little mischevious twinkle in Aaron's eye is just excellent. And Lucy totally looks like Kate Winslet. OMG, and the jester's cap. Priceless.

My favorite part of the trailer was the jester's cap.

Here's an interview I found with actor Jackie Earle Hayley, who plays Ronnie McGorvey in "Little Children". Pretty cool. He talks about his experience making the movie and his freindship with Kate Winslet.
