First and Last

first line of dialogue

"Sigh no more..."

last image

Can you guess the movie?

That's right it's [highlight for the answer] Kenneth Branagh's MUCH ADO ABOUT NOTHING (1993). Such a boisterously fun movie.

I just watched this for the first time -- so, so delightful. I love Shakespeare and Shakespeare on film is usually such a disaster so I was pleasantly surprised by how well it worked.

it's funny that this particular first and last seems so tranquil because the movie is bursting with energy.

Sigh no more ladies, sigh no more,
Men were deceivers ever,
One foot in sea and one on shore,
To one thing constant never.

Then sigh not so, but let them go,
And be you blithe and bonny,
Converting all your sounds of woe
Into hey nonny, nonny.

Sing no more ditties, sing no more
Of dumps so dull and heavy,
The fraud of men was ever so,
Since summer first was leafy.

Then sigh not so, but let them go,
And be you blithe and bonny,
Converting all your sounds of woe
Into hey nonny, nonny.

I watched this my senior year of high school while reading the play. It was such a fun little movie that was fantastically acted.

One that I actually knew (from the image, not the dialogue)...

this might be my favorite opening scene of the 1990s too. Emma is just stunning.

Yeah it's a good interpretation.

Dogberry and Verges were a mess though.

"SHE LOVES ME!!... WHY?!"

I remember laughing so hard the first time I saw it in the 10th grade. Such a lovely film... and a young Kate Beckinsale looked hot!
