Links: Social Networks, Hulk Bulges and Zombie Pornos

Just Jared more pics from the set of Captain America. Chris Evans with prosthetic feet. I always did wonder how they filmed barefoot chase scenes.
The Evening Class a defense of Bruce LaBruce's porno/horror hybrid LA Zombie.
Freaking Awesome ...speaking of zombies, this poster is created from zombie movie titles. Sick.
The Playlist Stanley Tucci shopping a sports biopic to direct and star in? At least it's not a traditional sports star biopic.
Vulture Mark Ruffalo will actually be playing the Hulk in his monster 3D form (i.e. motion capture) "I hope I don't bulge in anyone's face."

In Contention
"I'm just here for the movies" I'm glad I have Guy Lodge with me on this. While it's true that some Oscar pundits care about the race first, with the cinema being but a happy-accident side dish, that's not true of all of us.
Boy Culture Remember when I got to meet Michelle Pfeiffer and Julianne Moore? Good times. Matthew Rettemund, who wrote my favorite book on the icon (Encyclopedia Madonna), finally got to meet her. Here's his story - with video!
LA Times Lindsay Lohan wins more jail drama. I am going to valiantly try to never mention her again on the blog. I'm not sure why I'm doing so now. It'll be hard for me but I feel embarrassed, actually, that I've been rooting for her and intermittently defending her talent for 12 years. What so many millions of people would do with the breaks, beauty and talent she was gifted.
LA Rag Mag Adam Levine wants you to know that Jake Gyllenhaal is not gay.
Noh Way in the wake of the release of Easy A, looks at Hester Prynne throughout movie history

Finally, here's the first bit of the NYFF press conference after our screening of The Social Network yesterday.

I love this bit from Aarron Sorkin...
I didn't think it was a movie about Facebook. I thought it was a movie that had themes as old as storytelling itself: friendship and loyalty, class, jealousy, power -- these things that Aeschylus would write about or Shakespeare would write about or Paddy Chayefsky would write about. Luckily none of those people were available so I got to write about it.
I don't know if I quite buy into the "it'll win Best Picture!" mania that's spreading (it's only September 25th, after all. We don't even know how it will fare with the public) but I 100% believe that Sorkin has a very strong shot at taking home whichever Screenplay category he ends up in.

Great Madonna link!

I try to remind myself with every setback in Lindsay Lohan's career, she's only setting herself up for a bigger comeback. I know that's naively optimistic. But Lindsay Lohan has the potential to be my favorite movie star in the world if she turned it around. I could never give up on someone with so much potential because the mere THOUGHT of a glroious comeback makes me giddy.

Which makes it all the more surprising that the studio might be prepping it for a seemingly bizarre Original Screenplay campaign.

Am I sick for not being OK with Lourdes seeming so ordinary? You're Madonna's daughter for god's sake! Show something unique!

@Nick -- Bizarre indeed. It seems there has to be at least 1 screenplay controversy at the Oscars in any given year now regardless of how much sense it makes.

Glad to hear Sorkin's chances are pretty good, though.

well more than one if you question that "adapted" is now considered anything with pre-existing characters. Like how is TOY STORY 3 adapted? adapted from what?

It certainly won't win anything of the social networking guru has anything to say about it? The real Zuck seems quite displeased with his portrayal.

@Viewcaster. of course he's displeased. It's a movie that's part fictionalized and the rest based on the objectivity of several colleagues who aren't exactly fans of him, to put it mildly, and arguably a bit exploitive (and obviously dramatized) of the real events so they can make a zeitgeist-y film. "Never let the truth get in the way of a good story". True or not, I don't think anyone would leaping for joy if that happened to them.

Here we go again with this Original vs Adapted thing, which I don't think has a solution.

My opinion is that any movie based on facts that already happened should be considered Adapted. They are adapting situations that took place in real locations and with real people. In other words, the writer has material where to draw from to make the movie.

That's what I think at least, but I completely understand people who say Bright Star and Milk are original work.

It is terribly unfair that we place all of our gay lust onto Jake. Let him live his life in peace and nail all the women that he can get a hold of. But he's forever going to be a gay icon, so it's going to have to come with the territory for him to live with. Adam sticking up for his bro was nice of him to do, even if the execution came out bitter.

I am just shocked at how Chris Evans looks. It's like he took a whole bottle of steroids or something. I think he looked much better on previous movies.
One thing I like about that Captain America movie is that apparently it's going to be a period pice (at least part of it, I figure), judging by that car you can see in the photos.
