Some Came Running brief notes to prepare you in the watching of Uncle Boonmee Who Can Recall His Past Lives. Damn, I wish I'd read this before the movie. Actually, I don't. I like to go to movies as blind as possible as to their content. But if you like a little more of an inkling, this is a good users manual.

Speaking of Ms. Moore, ENTERTAINMENT WEEKLY reports that both she and The Bening will both be campaigning as lead for "The Kids Are All Right" (http://oscar-watch.ew.com/2010/09/20/annette-bening-julianne-moore-oscar-best-actress/). I didn't know if this was news to anyone or not, so I thought I'd share anyway.
I'm not really a fan of the idea of an Eisenberg nomination. Just too much similarity between the roles described. I judge the amount of talent as a multiplication of attempted range x believability of performance. And, well, Eisenberg barely applies any emotion in his voice or face, the base root of any cinema performance. Bleeker could have gone to either of them. However, Scott Pilgrim and his double role in Youth in Revolt? No way Eisenberg could do those. So...I think Cera could become a great, famous and respected lead actor. Eisenberg? The Cary Grant to Cera's James Stewart and, frankly, The Social Network could be, working within this parable, Eisenberg's Notorious.
This year was a pretty ugly year at the box office. Sony has been doing quite well though all things considered.

Julianne Moore should be in supporting for The Kids Are Alright. I know people will disagree but I think they should campaign her in supporting.
Jesse Eisenberg is not going to be nominated for The Social Network - in fact I don't believe any actor from that film will be nominated (and I've seen it).
Cary Grant, for me, would have a record of 8 nominations and no wins. Years of nomination: 37, 38, 39, 40, 44, 46, 55, 59. James Stewart? Probably 15 nominations, with Magic Town and Bend of the River as up for debate 16th and 17th nominations, with 4 wins. Years of nomination: Lead 39, Lead (Shop Around the Corner) and Support (The Philadelphia Story) 40, Lead 46, Lead 48 (Rope), Lead (Harvey) and Support (Winchester '73) 1950, Lead 53 (The Naked Spur), Lead 55 (The Man from Laramie), Lead 56, Lead 58 (Vertigo), Lead 59 (Anatomy of a Murder), Lead 62, Supporting 76. Winners: Supporting 40, Lead 46, Lead 50 and Lead 58.
Not feeling the hype for Eisenberg getting nominated either. The only Social Network actor I see getting in is Andrew Garfield.

But I have mentioned the Justin Timberlake in Yogi Bear thing a few times. Mostly because: It shows dedication and fearlessness. (I'm sure quite a few people hate the character he's playing. But still: THEY NEED TO NOMINATE A MOTION CAPTURE ROLE. This seems like a perfect opportunity. If they had already nominated motion capture work, I wouldn't be trying to discuss this at all. But...as things are, this needs to be discussed as being in contention.)
And, I know I should have mentioned this in the Easy A thread, but: Will Emma Stone show up in your lead Actress ballot?
The gay lovers are going to be really fashionable in 2012, between "Hoover" Phoenix and Di Caprio and "Danish Girl" Kidman and Winslet.
Not to mention the possibility of Freeheld, which is Ellen Page and somebody.
Maybe I'm alone on this because I wasn't blown away by the performances, but there's nothing Oscar-worthy about Eisenberg in The Social Network (I saw it on Sept. 11; Aaron Sorkin and Armie Hammer were there). It's a very good movie, but the dialogue is so overpowering that the characters are really just vents for Sorkin. Granted, the actors handle it well, but this is really more of a writer's/director's film than an actor's film.
I don't care if Kate Winslet's new man is an upgrade, there's something I don't like about him. Something very Beragon.

Volvagia, I'm still trying to find the connection between this post and James Stewart but I have to say now that James Stewart was supporting for Winchester 73 would be the biggest category fraud ever!
Jesse Eisenberg is absolutely deserving of an Oscar nom for "The Social Network," as is Andrew Garfield. They're whizzes playing whizzes, and they're both wickedly good at it.
I can see Social Network steamrolling at this point. I think they may want to give Fincher his due after getting mucho noms for Curious Case (gag!). The reviews are very positive, it's mainstream, it'll have decent B.O., and they probably want to reward Sorkin also.
At this point, I'd be shocked if Aaron Sorkin didn't already have the Best Adapted Screenplay Oscar in the bag. Look at all the things he's got going for him: a likely B.O. hit, a respected director, a cast of up-and-coming stars, the cultural zeitgeist factor.
Of course, that speaks more for the movie's prospects than his own but let's not forget the man's never been nominated AND has enough Emmys to decorate a Christmas tree.
badmofo --i'm seeing it tomorrow but I really have trouble imagining it as an Oscar powerhouse. It seems so young. But I guess i'll have a clearer picture tomorrow.
and didn't everyone think Sorkin was going to win for CHARLIE WILSON'S WAR before it arrived. and he didn't even get nominated.
@Nat -- True, but I just assumed that had more to do with the perceived quality of the film going into such a crowded race. Sorkin wasn't even recognized by the WGA. Not to mention the fact that Hanks and Roberts couldn't land nods for a period biopic (which is synonymous with "Oscar").
The Social Network, on the other hand, has been getting nothing but rave reviews so far.
At any rate, I'm anxious to see your reaction. That intuition of yours hasn't failed me yet! lol
