20:07 (At Truvy's)

Screenshots from the 20th minute and 7th second of movies
can't guarantee the same results at home. I use a VLC

I'm so anxious to discuss this topic for the 900th time this week

As someone who's never actually seen this movie, I'd like to pretend that quote is born not out of sarcasm but is completely sincere and an apt appraisal of the kind of conversations one has to sit through in that movie.

My mom loves this movie but I've still only seen bits and pieces of it

i'll just say that the line really spoke to me because since this movie is basically gay porn too many people i know watch it incessantly (the boyfriend!) and quote it constantly. so i felt like this line was uttered at 20:07 about the movie and completely FOR ME!

I love that you list this as "guilty pleasure" on your Top 10 list from that year. This was the first movie I ever went to by myself - I walked a mile to go see it, on a U.S. Marine Corps base, even though my parents had already taken me the night before. And I didn't tell them I was going again.

A lot was probably clear about the future of my life from this one anecdote, huh?

Anyway, I've seen this a zillion times, including about a week or two ago. "If you don't have anything nice to say, come sit by me..."

Say what you will about this movie, but you can't deny the absolute Dollylisciousness of it.

Another movie that gets a bad rap purely because it's prime audience is women and gay men.

sorry girls....I gotta say, in my book, this movie stinks. And this is coming from a guy who was glued to "Imitation of Life" yesterday as I was preparing my sweet potato souffle. "WEE-ZAH!"....I cringe when I hear Olympia screeching out that horrific name. Just one guy's opinion.

Guilty pleasure.

I played M'Lynn in the stage version once and I have to tell you those kinds of parts are a blast. I'm certain those girls will never, ever have had more fun. Plus added Dolly and Daryl. Couldn't hate it if I tried.

jimmy --i don't really think it's about stinkage. Imitation of Life is indeed divine... not a guilty pleasure at all since there's nothing to feel guilty about ;)

steel magnolias can produce guilt. I had a steel magnolias phase but my friends collective obsessions have soured me on it a bit. which is again why i dug this quote at 20:07. it's still fun though. And Dolly + Daryl + Shirley + Sally means I'm in. I get enough Sally these days on brothers and sisters but not nearly enough of the other three.
