for Los Angeles readers

Cinephilia Arden's very funny play of the same name (the one I saw and raved about) is playing on November 9,10,11 and 30 and December 1,2,7 and 8. It's a great choice for movie obsessives who also love live theater. Go out and support the career of one of the web's most unique voices.

my new favorite movie poster
Chris Ware turns his blissful geometric eye towards The Savages...

This roundup just went on and on, no? I guess I'm glad to be back to blogging

I just can't help to think that it's screaming "CANADA!!", for whatever reason. But it is very pretty.

The last paragraph of Tom O'Neil's essay was the one that struck me:

//While 55 of the 71 chaps who've won the Oscar for supporting actor have been over age 40, just 32 of the supporting actresses have been that old. The stats are even more startling when using a cut-off age of 55 — two dozen men and only 8 women. And at the other end of the age spectrum, 20 women aged 30 and under have won, while only 3 such young men have triumphed.//

Am I the only one here who thinks that is just terribly, terribly WRONG? What is it with Oscar and the young gals that mature actresses (and there are so many great ones out there right now)can't even have a go with him in the Supporting Catagory?

I will say only this: The poster is better than the movie.
