Best Supporting Actress performance-EVER. Patty Duke has a stolen Oscar.

Good call, John T. I feel robbed when I think of all the Lansbury performances of the 40s, 50s, and 60s that never happened. I wish she'd been as welcomed onscreen as she was, later, on Broadway.

Coincidentally, I just realized that the 1945 Picture of Dorian Gray is finally out on DVD, with Lansbury as the innocent Sybil Vane. Am deciding whether or not I need to own a copy.

Where's the push for an honorary Oscar for this lady?

Never seen the original Manchurian Candidate. Throughout my life I've heard about the movie and how Angela Lansbury is "chilling/approaches legendary" in it and all that talk I've heard about it has raised my expectations. Is the movie as good as they say? or am I in for a disappointment?

The movie is something else, definitely. Nightmarish, campy, prophetic, witty.

I am not the biggest fan of this movie, but I do like the Frank Sinatra and Khigh Dhiegh (sp?) performances. The scenes describing the captivity of the American G.I.s is particularly chilling.

And yes, there have been performances better than Angela Lansbury's in the history of the cinema, but I don't have to take off my shoes to count them. Believe the hype.

Lansbury is really attractive to me in that film. I have a thing for bitches... especially older ones.

ok I don't know anything, but imdb only refers to one angela lansbury's queen of diamond, a 2004 flick where she's credited for voice. I'm guessing that's not it.

Can someone point me in the right direction? Then make fun of me as much as you want! :-)

Mrs. Iselin in The Manchurian Candidate is not only Angela Lansbury best screen performance, but also one of the greatest female performances ever! It’s a shame she became a victim of the category fraud and lost her third Oscar nomination to Patty Duke who was co-lead in The Miracle Worker. Plus thanks to Meryl Streep we all know that not every actress could've played that part. Ms. Lansbury deserves to be recognized with an Honorary Oscar for her outstanding contribution to the art of film, but unfortunately I doubt it will ever happen.

It's funny that this is usually noted as one of the most obvious boners of Oscardom, but when the 1962 Smackdown occurred (in which Nathaniel participated), indeed Lansbury and Duke finished in a dead heat:

Patty Duke was supporting?? That is crap.

Love this film. Love Lansbury in it. And yes campy, but not like, Baby Jane campy.

But sorry, I enjoyed the remake and Streep. Certainly not legendary, but I dug.

Wayne B - this is a must-see, especially for Lansbury's peformance. If I recall correctly, she was only a couple years older than Lawrence Harvey, who played her son? And yet she was completely believable as his mother.

Thanks everyone for the recommendation, manchurian candidate is now on my must-see list.
