Blurry Mementos

Happy birthday to Jude who loves this movie (& Meme, too)

Random Thought o' the Day: I don't remember this movie backwards or forwards. Who has seen it recently? Does it hold up? I consider it a horror movie because I have a terrible memory and I fear all conditions that relate to it: amnesia, Alzheimer, general forgetfulness... which and whatever. I barely remember the movie I watched this morning (Me and Orson Welles) and I actually liked it.

Nathaniel, will Cotillard be considered supporting for your film bitch awards? And what about The Last Station? Two leads and one supporting for Mirren?

I'm way ahead of myself, I know :p

About Memento. I have yet to see the whole movie. I wasn't that excited.

Jim T... I consider Cotillard supporting in NINE yes. And I consider The Last Station to have 3 leads.

Memento is excellent. More of a mind-bending thriller, certainly not a horror film.

I watched this about a month ago for the first time and I have to say that it was one of the best and most unique movies that I've ever seen.

I saw it for the first time a few months ago.

I thought it was brilliant. It took a great idea and used it to its fullest. My mouth was agape as it neared its end- truly a great movie experience.

I'm also on Team Memento. But it took a few watches to win me over.

1st Watch = WTF?
2nd Time = Not bad. I should buy this.
3rd Time = Why didn't I buy this a long time ago?
4th Time (with friend) = The 3rd best movie of 2001?

I can't think of a director who's been a bigger success story in the 00s than Christopher Nolan, btw.

Memento definitely takes a couple viewings to really grasp the whole thing. I was kind of confused and bored the first go around, then tried rewatching it a couple years ago, and liked it a lot more the second time.

Love this movie. I've seen both the original and the chronological version in the dvd features (the latter proves the story holds up).

Don't make the mistake I did and show this to a party of half-drunk college students.

One of the best endings I have ever seen, and one that prove the movie is a lot more than a gimmick. Love it.

Thanks for the shout out!!

I honestly haven't thought about this movie since unless I'm wondering what happened to Guy Pearce's career.

I've found that this film has a pretty large amount of longevity. Anytime I've watched it in the past few years, I always seem to forget how meticulous everything is about the film. It's clearly a film that Nolan left no stone unturned about when conceiving it.

Interesting side note to it, the short story (written by Chris Nolan's brother) that this film is "based" around is also interesting. I say based because it really only lays the foundation that the film resides within. It's not about the story, but a fantastic piece of writing that grants you access to the headspace of Leonard.

This movie was what me and my boyfriend saw on our first date. That's all I remember about the movie, I haven't seen it since. Perhaps foo our ten year anniversary we'll revisit it.

Memento

Absolutely the best last line of any movie in years: "By the way..."

Robert Hamer said...

That wasn't the last line of the movie, Anonymous. It was, "Now, where was I?"

Wow, i really don't remember MOMENTO, i should have made a tattoo somewhere on my body about it. I do vaguely remember liking it at the time, and some of the scenes flash through m mind like a dream....i didn't realize that I have amnesia!
