Men
The Top 100 Actors of the Aughts Countdown continues with spots #90 through #85. Cheadle, Giamatti, Roache and more. Comment here if the numbers alarm you, feel about right, or surprise you.
Women
The previous poll at the site, regarding women most likely to follow Reese to clutch that coveted Oscar statue, has ended with just over a 1000 votes counted. Two 4 time Oscar nominees led.
28% of you rallied around Kate Winslet and 10% chose Julianne Moore as future Best Actress winners. In a rather strong third place showing 7% of you picked Nicole Kidman envisioning a second trophy. Y'all are crazy. She's just no Sally Field or Hilary Swank! (I joke. I joke.) Fourth place went to Oscar perennial Meryl Streep whose assumed third statue is a long time in coming now. Fighting it out for 5th place were Naomi Watts, Natalie Portman, Rachel McAdams, Scarlett Johansson, Glenn Close, Annette Bening, and "other". Naomi had a slight lead. Judging on this poll, readers suspect that longtime Oscar losers MIchelle Pfeiffer and Joan Allen will continue to be jipped of Hollywood's biggest trophy.

I agree that WInslet has it coming soon... very possibly for Little Children this very year. I worry for Moore, though... I fear that Pfeiffer, Allen and Moore are ALL the "next Glenn Close".
I am thinking Winslet this coming year, and Streep the next. Boy, it'd be cool if that came true.
Don't you think Cheadle and Giammati could maybe be a bit higher... I thought you LOVED Paul in Sideways.
Also, I just posted a fun little comment about some Crash lover's obvious homophobia on my blog. Shameless, random plug, I know, but I think it's funny and worth a look...
I just saw Takeshi Kaneshiro on your front page and I stopped breathing. MY GOD. Have I mentioned how beautiful I think this man is?
Yeah, I definitely think those top three are coming up sometime in the near future. It just feels right. In my 2007 Predictions that I just put up on my blog I have Winslet, Weaver, Bening and Streep all competing against one another. Now THAT would be a race (Sienna Miller is in there too).
Onto the countdown. I'm surprised Paul is so low too, but I'm super happy about it. "I can see that at the mall, thanks" (lol, i see that everyday at the mall, on the train, in the street, at....
Odd that my favourite of his performances was Storytelling. I respect him (sort of) but that don't mean I have to like him.
Now, I'm not a fan of Donald Sutherland, but i AM a fan of Christopher Plummer. Can he win an Oscar before he dies plz!?!
Whoa. I just read your reviews of American Psycho and Mission to Mars. LOVE Psycho (is it wrong that it's in my Top 20 of all time?) and absolutely hate Mars. There was a time that Mission to Mars was actually my most hated movie of all time, and then I saw National Security and a new loser was crownded.
"one of the single stupidest things ever seen onscreen" indeed
One of the funniest things ever is reading de Palma fans defending Mission to Mars.
I'm surprised to see Lie Kaas on your list, especially since we won't be seeing Thomsen. I wish you cheated and included Festen in your judgement. I'd defend him based on Brodre and The Inheritance, though.
How did virtually everyone miss the boat on Linus Roache?
And I am stunned to see Giammati so low. Wow.
I didn't get a chance to vote in the poll, but I have a feeling Annette Benning might wow again in Running With Scissors and win this year, she's my prediction. Winslet is overdue, but so is Benning who was outright robbed 2 years ago.
With regards to the actors, I love Cheadle but I can see how it takes time to warm to him. He won me over in the scene in Boogie Nights when he's trying to get a loan in the bank.
"(I can see that at the mall, thanks)" is genius.
adam k -i fear the same thing.
aaron -maybe you haven't mentioned it. But i certainly have.
glenn -it's not wrong to love on psycho, it's smart.
arkaan -lie kaas over ulrich was a matter of the idiots and the idiots alone. (i have not yet seen the Inheritance. But I understand they're both in adams apple so I anxiously await)
ramification -i love cheadle in boogie nights too. he'd be higher if that were in the past five years... but he's hit and miss with me.
oh and aaron ...you mean you haven't read my Takeshi tribute yet?
Julianne Moore SHOULD and WILL WIN the oscar some time. With another nomination they wil hand out her the prize just because it's absoloutely overdue. I rather worry about if she will be nominated soon... Is "The Children Of Men" really an oscar-worthy stuff - and is her part in "Children" oscar-worthy??? And other oscar-worthy projects next time??? Of course "Savage Grace" but WHEN WILL IT BE REALIZED????
I agree with the top 3. Kate has a great chance this year and Julianne just HAS to win one day. It just wouldnt be fit.
On Nicole Kidman, I agree that I can see her winning again actually soon. Maybe not this year(but I can see her getting nominated)but I really do think she is not going to get past 45 without getting another one. Mark my words. And if fuckin Hilary Swank and Salley Field(who both dont deserve shit, I'm sorry) can have 2(on 2 nominations non the less)then I cant see how it's impossible for Nicole to get another one.
I haven't seen the other movie Sally won for but she gave one of my all-time fave performances in Norma Rae, so...
btw, i love the picture of Jamie Bell on the front page. I love him sooo much (it's a disease)
I think Bening will be the favorite this year. Her overdue factor is more pronounced than Winslet's, because in the last two instances that Annette lost, she actually had strong chances for the award. Not to mention the fact that she lost to the same person!
Even if Kate has four nominations, not a lot of people will say she was robbed in any of those years.
melvel I am in total agreement with you about Benning, plus I think she actually deserved to win for Bugsy as well, which she wasn't even nominated for. What can I say, she's my favorite actress, Running With Scissors is one of my all time favorite books, so it would be great if it turned out well and she finally won for best actress. As for Winslet, I can see her winning soon, four nominations at her young age is just phenomenal.
Well her husband hasn't fared that well with the Academy voters, something like one win out of 14 nominations so maybe its rubbing off on her?
