Subtitled Oscars
UPDATE: I've revised the pages slightly for Oscar's foreign language film category. I'd been waiting for the press release which (as of this writing) has still not been released --very tardy for AMPAS. Nevertheless the page has been updated to reflect which films appear on their screening schedule. By my count it's 59 films competing. Cuba, Luxembourg, and Taiwan do not appear despite announcing submission. South Africa, last year's winner, not submitting. I expect official word from the Academy will arrive today or tomorrow since screenings start this weekend.

yes, Boliva chose the terrible terrible film "American Visa", while Peru chose the much better "Madeinusa"
60 films submitted right?, so 8 got dissqualified?
more than 8 because there are some on there that I hadn't yet posted.
Yeah, I agree with Marcelo. Way to go on all of this.
Just for the record, Australia's entry, Ten Canoes received 7 Australian Film Institute nominations this morning including Best Film, Direction and Original Screenplay, which was the third highest nomination getter after Suburban Mayhem and Jindabyne.
...I hope it's still eligible for Oscar. I still worry because there's english narration.
I don't think Ten Canoes will get disqualified, I can't wait to see it. My guess is that they are having debates over some films, they were supposed to have the list this Monday, but nothing official yet...
If Luxembourg was disqualified, it is easy to say why: there is a not-negligible part of the film's dialogues in.... English! For some reason, the Academy doesn't like that when qualifying films for its Best FOREIGN Language Film Oscar...
Finland will choose another Oscarentry since the director Kaurismäki refuse to let his movie "Lights in the dusk" go to the Oscars.
As the last time he was nominated with "The man without a past" and did not attend the Oscar ceremony, he is protesting the Iraq war.

that's the precious link!
so Luxembourg god disqualified right? anyone else?
damit!, for some reason the link doesn't show up but just go to oscars.org and look for the list...
Finland didn't have enough time to choose another entry, so there will be no Finnish representation. That said, (according to the press release)
"Foreign Language committee chair Mark Johnson has initiated a dialogue with Kaurismaki in an effort to persuade him to reverse that decision."
