The people who think Bullock deserves to win are almost as many as the people who think Gabby does. Weird.
AGH, I loooooove that Firth is leading the Best Actor poll (for now...?). If the Best Actor presenter reads off his name on March 7th, I'll be elated. Renner would be awesome too, however...
Since the acting nods were selected by a lazy body of voters, and since The Hurt Locker towers above the nominees (IMO), this was a fairly easy set of polls. Well, Best Actor made me pause for a while. Didn't think there were so many Firth fans.
OT, but I just thought I'd remind everyone that the Berlinale is starting tonight.
I don't know why I like these things so much, but I'll definitely be watching the opening gala. It'll be on TV here, but they'll also have a live stream on the Berlinale website (they also stream many of the press conferences).
Is it just me or has the fact that Renée Zellweger is a member of the jury gone almost unnoticed?
who?
kidding!
;)
my vote goes to...
PICTURE: "The Hurt Locker"
DIRECTING: "The Hurt Locker"
ACTOR: Colin Firth
ACTRESS: Meryl Streep
SUPP. ACTOR: Christoph Waltz
SUPP. ACTRESS: Mo'Nique
ADAPTED SCREENPLAY: "Up In the Air"
ORIGINAL SCREENPLAY: "Inglourious Basterds"
PICTURE: Up - I know it has no shot at winning, but it's one of the most perfect films EVER. Good for all ages, and I'm not talking about appropriateness
DIRECTOR: Quentin Tarantino (Inglourious Basterds) - The master doing what he does best!
ACTOR: Jeff Bridges (Crazy Heart) - although this race is pointless without Robert Downey, Jr.!!!!
ACTRESS: Gabourey Sidibe (Precious: Based on the Novel "Push" by Sapphire) - although, according to Nathaniel, this race is pointless without Tilda Swinton. I'll take his word for it, but I still need to check Julia out sometime
SUPPORTING ACTOR: Christopher Plummer(The Last Station) - I don't get the Waltz love, and I'm not impressed with the nominees as a whole. Haven't seen The Last Station yet... but resistance to Captain Von Trapp is unacceptable!!!
SUPPORTING ACTRESS: Mo'Nique (Precious: Based on the Novel "Push" by Sapphire,) - The best performance of the year!
ORIGINAL SCREENPLAY: Up
ADAPTED SCREENPLAY: Precious: Based on the Novel "Push" by Sapphire
Julian, you're the first person I know of who doesn't like Waltz performance.
For me it's:
Best Picture: Inglorious Basterds. It's probably not perfect but when it's good, it's great and when it fails it's still good.
Best Director: Kathryn Bigelow- I ccan't explain this, but she had this kind of silent presence in the film. She was always in control.
Best Actor: Undecided, haven't seen most of the nominees.
Best Actress: Carey Mulligan, hundreds of people have said it before and I'll say it again: a star is born.
Best Supporting Actor: Christoph Waltz just does something very different that anything I've seen before. And I mean that as a compliment!
Best Supporting Actress: It's Vera Farmiga for me. Nothing against Mo'Nique, just that I hated Precious and I couldn't believe some of the things that were going on. I really felt Mo'Nique and Sidibe were doing everything there is to do to rise above the material.
Best Original Screenplay: (500) Days of... oh, right. Inglorious Basterds :)
Best Adapted Screenplay: Up in the Air.
The fact that The Hurt Locker and Colin Firth (separately) are winning these polls are making me feel really comfortable right now.
PICTURE: "The Hurt Locker"
DIRECTING: "The Hurt Locker"
ACTOR: Colin Firth
ACTRESS: Gabourey Sidibe
SUPP. ACTOR: Christoph Waltz
SUPP. ACTRESS: Mo'Nique
ADAPTED SCREENPLAY: "In The Loop"
ORIGINAL SCREENPLAY: "Inglourious Basterds"
Lucky - When I said I didn't get the Waltz love, I meant I'm not on the bandwagon that thinks he's Oscar worthy. I liked his performance just fine. Wasn't too clear on that. Apologies
Julian, I agree with you re: Waltz. So that at least makes two of us...
