Hiam Abbass for Julian Schnable's Miral
Catherine O'Hara. Even though I don't think she's really starring in any movies this year that are going to give her that opportunity, but she's looooong overdue.
Otherwise...Kristen Stewart. Because that would be funny.
Kerry Washington for whatever. She's amazing, deserving, and one of the few black actors out there getting roles meant for white actors. That means a hell of a lot in Hollywood!
Also Jeffery Wright, Alfred Molina, Vanessa Redgrave, Mary Louise Parker, Leonardo DiCaprio, Judi Dench (a lead for heaven sakes!) and Alfre Woodard!
Definitely Julianne or The Bening. I haven't seen the movie yet, but I hear they're good!

Right now, for me, 2010 is all about Terrence Malick. I highly doubt it, but an Oscar for Malick would be a nice start to the decade.

Helena Bonham Carter for The King's Speech; Ed Harris or Colin Farrell for The Way Back, Ms. Bening - for her very existence; and Ralph Fiennes in Coriolanus (or Leo D.).
To speak my piece: Why has Hollywood left Christian Slater in the "No Hope" pile? No, he's not as classic as Peter Sellers or The Guy He Sounds Like, but he's the most "inglourious" piece of detritus Hollywood has ever tried to excise, and I'm certain that he would have been a better, less favourtist, selection than Eli Roth. He should have had the kind of career that wins Oscars by now, not stooping to stretching his filmography...with an Uwe Boll movie. So, yeah, I want him to win one eventually.

I'd want at least Ryan Gosling and Michelle Williams to get their second Oscar nominations. I don't need for them to win since they're both young, but I really want Blue Valentine to be AWESOME.

Shutter Island and Alice in Wonderland look great, but will probably fall off the Best Picture due to timing. Also, Alice in Wonderland doesn't seem Oscar-y enough.

I have this sneaking suspicion that this might finally be the year for Leonardo DiCaprio and Annette Bening... is that a foolish pipe dream?
Honestly, what's with the reasoning "because they're overdue!" fuck off!! That is such horrible reasoning. Its performance based, its not a battle between career or age. Look where that arguement has taken us, the two frontrunners for best actress are the least-deserving of all the five actresses nominated. And not to mention because sandra bullock got nominated she took The blind side with her. If it just so happens everytime an actor was nominated they had better competition and they didnt win...well,then...that's that. Being nominated multiple times is still a good thing. That means they still have a great career with growing potential, don't label them as overdue and then use that as a reason for them to win and having that win be just. IT'S RIDICULOUS!! Besides, giving an oscar/any reward to any actor for being overdue just creates more "overdue" actors.
Just don't get mad cause someone else was better. Poor Mulligan and Sidibe.

Of anyone deserving an Oscar today, I hope that the Academy will bestow an Honorary Academy Award to Doris Day. This is an actress who excelled in light romantic comedy, musicals and dramas. Far from a cultural joke (read: virginal) she infused an empowering spunk and vitality in every role she approached. This is an actress who could do it all.
Poppy, I could not agree more. If an actor is going to be overdue when they win, they should win for a deserving performance, a la Jeff Bridges. That said, it pisses me off at the thought that Leonardo Dicaprio will inevitably win an Oscar, even if he never gives a truly deserving performance. Because that's just how it works.

Me again. Been watching some old movies, and I think Eli Wallach could deserve a statue for Wall Street 2: Money Never Sleeps. It would be a neat choice, especially since the cast is almost entirely tilted toward new talent, because even the other old guy has only exposed himself as talented recently. (Sorry Frank Langella, but Eli has been waiting much longer.)
I don't know about winning, but as far as nominations:

I'd be thrilled to see DiCaprio nom'd for Shutter Island because he really, REALLY is great in it. In fact he'd have been up there with Bridges if the film hadn't been moved back (imo, of course). But I'm kinda glad he isn't because I really want to see Bridges take home the little man finally!! Cool thing I heard is that Mike Medavoy, who Brando appointed as a trustee for his estate, actually told Leo that his perf in Shutter reminded him of Marlon's work when he was a young actor. Would love to see Mark Ruffalo up for something. Ditto Annette Benning and Julianne Moore -- both terribly deserving.

For actors, well Leonardo does sound great.

The double winners usually win their statues close together, yeah? (Meryl Streep, Sean Penn, Hilary Swank, Tom Hanks, Jodie Foster, etc.) I wouldn't be surprised if Nicole Kidman won for Rabbit Hole. It's a great part in a great play.
Wouldn't it be great if Julianne Moore were able to get nominated for Chloe? I know it's so unlikely, but Glenn Close got in for Fatal Attraction.

Robert Downey, Jr. He's my favorite actor, and I think it's a bit ridiculous that he hasn't won an Oscar yet. Sadly, neither of his films next year really seem like "Oscar bait"

Knightley gets stick because of her weight. I know a lot of people (especially young women I have to admit) who have a visceral reaction against Knightley because they think she epitomises the 'impossibly thin' visual oppression that the media, and especially women's magazines, engages in. In Knightley's case though, its clear she really is just naturally skinny. I respect the fact that she is a young actress who has forged a serious career, largely free from tabloid-baiting situations, and has consistently proven her critics wrong. She reminds me a lot of Natalie Portman in that regard.

If Laura Linney is winning anything next year, is going to be an Emmy. She is doing TV now, a dramedy about cancer on Showtime.
Naomi Watts and Josh Brolin for Woody's "You Will Meet a Tall Dark Stranger"
I think Helen Mirren has a good chance of another nomination next year for playing "Prospera" in Julie Taymor's "The Tempest". If she's as great as Jessica Lange was in Taymor's "Titus" then I really want to see the movie.
I think voters will be watching her and liking her this year in "The Last Station" for which she has no chance of winning, although I think the part will create goodwill that will carry over to next year. Especially if they're feeling a slight voter's remorse at giving the Best Actress award to Sandra Bullock.
I'd also love to see some of my favorite actors finally win - Edward Norton in "Leaves of Grass" or "Motherless Brooklyn"; Emily Watson in "Ride the Whirlwind"; or Naomi Watts, Mark Ruffalo, Hugh Jackman, Christian Bale, Viola Davis, Rosamund Pike, Joaquin Phoenix (if he ever makes another movie).

@badmotherfucker, Oh Marion won't get anything for Inception sadly, but I completely agree, she was the best (and arguably the only good) thing about Nine, and Penelope getting a nod was just fuckery considering how amazing Marion was.
Oh, I'd also like to see Jim Carrey or Cameron Diaz get nominated. They're two poor people who the AMPAs just don't like. Twice, Cameron Diaz has been nominated for both a SAG and a GG for a role and she just didn't get that Oscar nod. Jim Carrey should go for a nice dramatic role again and maybe at some point things will go well for him.
