Best Picture & Director. Discuss
My April Fool Predictions are up for Best Picture and Best Director. It will be a "Good" Year. I've also thrown up pages for both types of Screenplay and Costumes. Pages are still barebones but these things take time. [sigh]. Check it out and discuss here. Acting Awards and other techs later --commentary on each page eventually.

So, wouldn't it be funny if Clint Eastwood and Robert de Niro were both nominated for best director against Martin Scorsese. Two actor-turned-directors? Scorsese might just skip the show.
I think your really under estimating Scorsese's Pic, it's got an oscar loving cast, a 5 time nominee and the pressure again for the academy to award Marty. I think its going to be a force.
Kate Winslet isn't a 5-time Oscar nominee (not yet anyway)
For best picture, I like (from this distance) Little Children, The Good Sheperd and The Departed. I would add Flag of Our Fathers. For the fifth spot, either Marie Antoinette or Dream Girls.
It would be the height or irony if De Niro beat Marty to best director. I hope he'd thank him.
I basically ignored The Good Shepherd. I don't know why. I also ignored Scorsese's movie. Basically because it's a remake and considering the Academy PLEADED with people to go to the movies at the last Oscars, it'd seem downright insulting if they embraced a remake of a foreign movie from only a few years ago.
GO TO THE CINEMA... AS LONG AS IT'S NOT A FOREIGN FILM. WE'LL REMAKE IT IN 2-3 YEARS FOR YOUR CONVENIENCE... THEN GO TO THE CINEMA.
In my own predix I went with the wacky-tobacky idea that the Academy want to create history and nominate both Francis Ford AND Sofia Coppola. Wouldn't that be a hoot and a half?
i love the idea of both Coppolas too. so cute that'd be.
i'm not sure why i went with Bruno Ganz though...since i don't have the movie anywhere else.
