Deadline Hollywood "Speechless #11" with Laura Linney. Another video in support of the writers strike. This is laugh out loud funny. Question: Is The Lovely Laura Linney™ trying to transform us all into subservient loveslaves for 2007...I ask cuz it's totally working. I already sent this to Nick who replied "Is she not totally better in this clip than, like, all of the Best Actress nominees from '05?" to which I must reply in the affirmative. Hilarious.

Are you as sick as I am of waiting around for Atonement to open? Release that damn thing already -- Give me Joe guiding Keira & James... now.

Oh-em-gee, I'm off to buy a Vanity Fair RIGHT NOW! That is the fittest thing I've seen all... ever.
Atonement: Nathaniel's first "A" to a new release since Brokeback Mountain??... It's the only "A" I've given since the 2005 season at any rate.
Laura, you grow lovelier in my mind every day. Though it's the first Speechless I've watched. Up until now, I thought this series was a "quirky" protest with an actor/actress being silent on screen for a few minutes. But it's actually quite funny, good job LL.
You didn't!
Mentioning Pink and saying kind words?
If only it could be possible to love this site more.
Pink rocks.
Linney?
Pink?
Hyperventilating over the fact Atonement isn't being released for a week and a half?
Nat... You. Are. (Even More.) Awesome.
Is it just me, or does Joe Wright look hot?

OMG, that was hilarious. I love Laura Linney. I envision myself watching this clip at least about a dozen more times.
I totally want her to win the oscar. Just call it an honorary award for THAT.
And yeah, Joe Wright is the hottest new director since PTA.
Wright looks has more charisma than PTA. Lurrrrrve the grungy cockney accent. He's funny too.
it's actually Fernando Eimbcke (Duck Season) who's the hottest director to emerge in some time!
Wow, Fernando IS hot! Thanks for that intro Nathaniel. But Joe Wright (aka Mr Rosamund Pike) is also fit. I like his weirdly shaped, bushy eyebrows. He was definitely emitting some 'sex' at the Q&A.
ugh, no. Pass. Looks like a little boy.
Now, François Ozon - yum.
Whoa, Eimbcke IS hot. But Ozon is also choice.
Yay for foreign guys.
The leading ladies of 2005 get a bad rap sometimes. Yeah, Reese's blah, but I thought that Felicity rocked it, Keira surprised me to no end, La Dench is peerless, and even Charlize's Norma Rae antics were at least decent and fitting. But yeah, Laura Linney is a goddess, and that clip was hilarious ("I went to school . . . I can write!?"). I can't wait to see her in "The Savages".
"No, I did not...Get me another scotch."
Hehe, Laura Linney is brilliant.
Yeah, Ozon and Eimbcke and Wright are good-looking guys, but let's not forget Thomas Vinterberg. He hasn't really capitalized on the promise of Festen, but he's still quite easy on the eyes.
Also, this guy's directorial debut played at Toronto this year. So there's that.
Eh, Vinterberg looks like an effeminized Brad Pitt wannabe. Not into him. But Gael as a director... that's pretty hot.
How did THIS become what the thread was about?
I've seen Atonement! I've seen Atonement!
I love how America is catching onto Pink's latest album, like, a year after everyone else did.
In terms of new hot directors I still say Greg McLean is a sexy silver foxy peace of meat. I've met him in person and I reigned myself in big time. Pictures don't do him justice.
You won't be disappointed by Atonement. I saw it months ago in London, and went back twice. Its truly wonderful - and I say this as someone who considers the material to be one of the greatest novels of the last 20 years - http://gayasxmas.blogspot.com/2007/10/nothing-to-atone-for.html
If you can, watch Atonement twice before actually reviewing it.
Once to get rid of the anticipation and expectation.
And twice, to sit back and really just study the characters and the film.
Pay alot of attention on the body gestures. Every look, smile, blink, intake of breath all serve the narrative in a way that the dialogue could never had done so.
I loved it the first time, but went mad over it the second time.
Just breath Nate. Inhale 'Julianne Moore', exhale 'Michelle Pfeiffer'. However, I am waiting ever so patiently for that damn movie to be released.
Laura Linney was just snubbed big time from the Independent Spirit Awards for "The Savages", even though the film got into Best Director, Best Actor (Philip Seymour Hoffman), and Best Screenplay.
Jolie nominated for the INDEPENDENT Spirit awards but no Laura Linney ?
This world is definitely an ugly place.
I mean, Hoffman is in but no Linney ? She got better reviews ! I guess women voters are jealous of her looks and talent.. and they vote for Jolie because she is a so-called bisexual, and all the indie voters are angry lesbian so they can identify to her but not to Linney
All the reviews I saw basically talked about both Linney and Hoffman together as being great. But the Linney snub is still ridiculous.
linney is BY FAR the best thing about The Savages so the omission is really weird.
this is not because i'm not a Hoffman fan. I like his more low key performances (like this one) but he just doesn't have the role that she has. it's totally her movie.
Amalric, that is the strangest awards reasonings I've heard in a long time :P
Kamikaze camel,
do you have a better explanation ?
Amalric's does make sense to me. They probably all masturbate thinking about her and that asian chick. Or her tendency to cut herself with knives. HOW INDIE IS THAT ? They must think they're so cool... And they nominate the Brit Miller because she played Eddie Sedgwick, another... INDIE Icon. HOW INDIE IS THAT ? ISA voters are sooo cool...
Anyway, Kidman and Linney don't need these noms.. they are respected in the industry and getting great reviews for A LONG TIME, not because they played a bi-sexual sociopath ten years ago (what a character actress that Jolie girl !!)
I thought she was nominated because she's pretty damn great...? [shrugs]
That Laura Linney-clip is fantastic, well, just like every clip with her in it...basically.
Atonement still isn't released in the US? That really is a shame. I wasn't sure what to expect from it (having read and being fascinated with the book) but it just blew my mind in so many ways...
I'll just boldly predict: You'll love it, Nat.
Folks, the "angry lesbian slurs" are getting just a teensy bit tiresome. Thanks.
RedSatinDoll
Miller wasn't nominated for Factory Girl, she was nominated for Interview. A different movie. She doesn't play Edie Sedgwick in that.
yeah the "angry lesbian" theory is one of the weirdest awards season theories i've yet heard.
but the film experience loves lesbians, angry and otherwise, so if you're going to mention them: do it with love.
Those who have seen Atonement, does anyone else think Joe Wright is quickly becoming a modern David Lean? Or is that just me?
