I thought about calling this post "I am Me" but conjuring unwelcome Ashlee Simpson thoughts is not what I'm about. Yet I am, no matter the circumstances or environment, always who I am. Last night I saw No Country For Old Men a second time with frequent partner in crime Susan P and The Boyfriend. Afterwards: cocktails and num-nums with cast and crew of the movie and a couple hundred other industry and media types. The Coens were there including Frances McDormand (younger and prettier in person), Kelly Macdonald, David Strathairn, Javier Bardem, Josh Brolin. Who am I most excited to see in this room? Who do I make a beeline for in the overcrowded space? Celia Weston. She's not even in the movie. But I have this incurable actress problem...
Celia, all humble and --I'm guessing here-- not accustomed to wild eyed groupies approaching her, actually attempted to tell me her name after I expressed my admiration. Um... 'I know who you are!' I say with duh! amusement. We talked about Far From Heaven and Junebug, I told her about my "Actress of the Aughts" list on The Film Experience and how high she placed. 'I don't even have a computer Nathaniel' she says. Oh, Celia
Later in the night Josh Brolin called Susan and I geeks (lovingly I assure you. The topic: Grindhouse) but nobody called me an actressexual -- maybe because I made up the word. But that is who I am. The movie is great. Javier Bardem is still sexier than you can possibly imagine in person. The food was delicious. Whatever. I met Celia Weston!

Damn you! I've been working on a tribute post to Weston. I never thought others shared my adoration.
Wow: very cool story. See, I never get to mingle with filmic people. If I ever got the chance to, I'd probably faint with confusion. My life has been fairly bereft of famous-encounters, except for when I went to meet Debbie Harry earlier this year and that time I saw Nicky from Westlife at the airport. Sigh.
aww. celia is just wonderful in everything she's in.

That's incredibly exciting. I imagine Celia would be pretty wild in real life.
I already can't wait for when you meet Marylouise Burke. But then, you knew that already.
I'm going to go post my parallel stories now, if I can find my photos.
I know you've ranted about category fraud. It seems that there should be awards given for the body of work these truly supporting actors develop. Celia Weston is memorable in every role she's had, and she deserves some recognition!
Ha ha, so in other words you met more famous actors in one evening than I've seen in my entire life. Lucky you.
Btw, did you talk to David Strathairn? I would faint if I ever met that man.
I did not talk to Strathairn... but he watched the movie from a seat just 4 asses to the right of me. It looked like he was with family and he wasn't there to promote his own movie (he's not in it either) so I thought it would be intrusive. I suppose you could say the same for Celia Weston but my actress obsession prevented me from behaving ;)
As for Brolin, Bardem, etc... they were there to mingle. It's part o' the job description.
I actually saw The Invasion, which was truly awful. The only saving grace was the wondrous Celia Weston. She always shines and is sooo overdue for recognition.
Well, maybe not the only saving grace, I mean there was Daniel Craig in a turtleneck, but I digress.
OK, and Veronica Cartwright, but really that's it.
No offense, but I thought I made up the word actressexual. Your original "actressual" seemed off by a syllable. Of course, you invented the concept and have made this campaign your own, so it's all yours. But I feel like I need to indulge my inner word-coining Stephen Colbert.
Anyway, I can't imagine trying to explain to Celia Weston where she ranked on a list of favorite actresses from 2000-2007. Even approaching her would be mortifying. And yet you did, and her response was quite poised and sweet.
Celia was heartbreaking in 'Dead Man Walking' and 'In the Bedroom'. Definitely worthy of a tribute.

P.S. Did you see Diane Lane there? Or was she not with her husband? (Probably would've mentioned it if you saw her...)
you think correctly. I would've mention the Lane.
Josh seemed to be without entourage (or he was just better at mingling than the others). Javier had a couple of gorgeous guys flanking him at all times ;)
