20:07 (Two Letters)

The 20:07 series officially ended only 32 days ago but I've heard your pleas so we might have one last farewell tour soon (maybe). At any rate... this is exactly how I'm feeling today --and why posting is light-- so I thought I'd share it.

I can't guarantee the same results at home (different players/timing) I use a VLC

You know when Khrushchev was forced out he sat down and wrote two letters. He gave them to his successor and he said 'when you get yourself into a situation you can't get out of open the first letter and you’ll be saved. And when you get yourself into another situation you can’t get out of, open the second letter.'

Well, soon enough, this guy found himself in a tight place so he opened the first letter which said 'blame everything on me.' So he blamed the old man and it worked like a charm. Well, he got himself into a second situation he couldn’t get out , so he opened the second letter. It said 'Sit down and write two letters'.

One of my favourite moments from a strangely underrated film.

Random, I know. But I'd just like to comment on Jamie Lee Curtis, who I thought had "retired" from acting this past year is now making a movie about a talking dog in Mexico...really?

arkaan ---i think that's the first time i've heard TRAFFIC referred to as underrated. whaaa?

queeny --yeah, her career make no sense

anon --they've both said they don't want to work together. sadly, i don't think jamie lee came anywhere near Oscar though she's certainly deserved to before

Yeah, I know. When it came out, it was all the rage and "everyone" loved it. There were those who found it overrated and about as deep as the daily news. It doesn't help that since then, HBO's The Wire has covered the drug trade in far deeper, richer tones.

But I saw it recently (within the last year) and was very impressed with how well it held up. The acting is across the board phenomenal (Zeta-Jones may be limited, but damn is she effective; del Toro is amazing), and Soderbergh's direction is very strong (he's such a strong craftsman).

While it's not really underrated, we won't be seeing it on any "best of the 2000's" retrospectives in 2009, and given what we will see, that's kinda disappointing.

It will be on my "best of 2000" retrospective. Hell, it'll be right near the top. Thought Michael Douglas was the pick of the bunch in this. What with this role and his lead in Wonder Boys I half hoped he'd win two Oscars, so of course he didn't even find a single nom. Typical!

zeta-jones is v v good in this her scene discussing crossing the boarder with drugs is fantastic
my top 5 2000 supp actresses
elaine may
catherine zeta jones
frances mcdormand
jennifer connelly
marcia gay harden.

nat - i am sure curtis came close to oscar in 1994 with true lies hell she won a globe and a screen actors guild nod.

I don't even remember this scene. I know I ought to rewatch this film, but I never find myself reaching for it on the DVD shelf. There's always something else that I'm more interested in re-watching.

hmmm-I saw part of Traffic, I fell asleep on it.I also did that for Ganags of NY but, I woke up and it was still on.

Has anyone noticed the onslaught of period films especially ones about Queens.

The Queen
The Golden Age
Young Victoria-Emily Blunt
Mary Queen of Scots-Scarjo

hmmm not to mention all the other period pieces. The Duchess-Kiera Knightley, Becoming Jane etc.

Is ScarJo doing Mary Queen of Scots?!

*shudders with horror*

There's no way she could fit into that role, I don't believe she has it in her!!! Such an interesting historical figure, couldn't they find someone worthier to portray her?!

ScarJo... way to bland and blah for my taste!

damn1 I'm trying to remember an old movie of Mary Queen of Scotts, quite a bloody one too! With a rather effemitae Darnely? Anyone seen this?

Young Victoria has been portrayed before as well, great job by Romy Schneider right before the Sissi movies: Mädchenjahre einer Königinhttp://www.imdb.com/title/tt0047259/
Definitely a fun take on the wooing of Victoria and Albert! ;o)

lost in translation, the horse whisperer, match point, girl with a pearl earring & ghost world she was good in but she is miscast a lot of times she is the femaile jake gyllenhaal gets good roles but if way too young for them except brokeback mountain,if she finds the perfect role then she may have a chance with oscar but she needs to work less and in more quality projects.
