Barry Lyndon was better.

And I know this girl who thinks that Keir Dullea was the hottest piece of ass ever who never got famous.

Speaking of which, someone needs to blog a list of the hottest pieces of ass who never got famous.

I'm sorry, Dave. I'm afraid I can't do that.

This movie was seminal in my development as a film geek. My 4th grade class went to see it at the local Cinerama theatre (with the curved screen), where I sat in the front row. It was the first truly "serious" and "important" film I ever saw. Needless to say, 2001 totally blew my young mind. It still does. It's a frustrating film at times, but it's also utterly majestic and daring. Wow.

The finale of this scene is probably one of the most terrifying scenes I've seen on film.

What are you doing Hal?

Someone recommended that I read the book to better understand the film. Kubric had a way of making everything like some horrible nightmare, by leaving out just enough of the story to make everything mysterious and creepy.
