Vulture Alejandro Gonzalez Innaritu speaks out. Good read. I especially liked the Woody Allen bits.
/Film Remember when Buried won that surprise NBR Screenplay award. That's not the end of the film's Oscar campaign story...
Wired Patton Oswalt (The United States of Tara) asks for the death/rebirth of geek culture by ETEWAF (Everything That Ever Was... Available Forever). Really interesting piece, especially if you're feeling burnt out by the internet's constant regurgitation of past things and repurposing of newish things.
Playbill has a list of a ton of people's favorite theater moments of the year. I wish I could still afford theater. [sniffle]
Towleroad my weekly article with a teensy bit on the "depressing" double of Rabbit Hole and Blue Valentine.
Cinema Blend Casper the Friendly Ghost is coming back to the movies. In Related News: Hollywood isn't even trying anymore. True story: I saw the Christina Ricci Casper (1995) at the drive-in and my best friend cried and we all made fun of him for weeks afterwards.
Three random questions:
- Do you think Anne Hathaway is pissed that her Oscar co-host gets the EW cover but Natalie Portman gets what would then, symmetrically speaking, be hers?
- Will there be a single day in 2011 where we aren't staring at Natalie Portman's mug?
- Was there a day in 2010 when we didn't see James Francos?

The Awl Call this next year twenty-eleven, please not "two thousand eleven". A compelling funny argument.

Technically speaking, yes the cover should be Anne's, but Anne is not really in the Oscar race, so perhaps it could be argued that they gave covers to two who we'll see nominated on Jan. 25th...?
Random: but if that Judy Garland biopic with Anne is still happening, that screams Oscar so loud.
And why does James Franco have to be so incredibly cute and hot? :|
So...is this horrible-looking Ashton Kutcher co-starrer going to Norbit Natalie's Oscar chances?
I know someone who actually refers to next year as "two-oh-eleven," or, even worse, "two-eleven." We've tried to point out how that makes absolutely no sense at all, but he refuses to listen.
J -- I'd say no. They don't really care if women make bad choices. they only need their men to be respectable. ;)
Liz -- oy. i feel for you. hopefully he'll be shamed into stopping.
while i'm sure Anne is slightly miffed (granted she was their cover girl in nov, alongside a steamy Jake no less), these are exciting covers and anything that helps BLACK SWAN's already impressive box office is fine by me
Regarding the EW cover...I wonder what those 25 Movies to Watch are. Really curious. Not curious enough to buy it, though.
Eagerly awaiting the new site, Nathaniel. I'm in need of your Oscar predictions. Also, do you happen to have an awards schedule? I know you posted one before but I can't find it. :(
Natalie and James are promoting Your Highness (2011) and their relevancy at next year’s Oscar ceremony.

Yes, Anne Hathaway stated the Judy Garland biopic's film and stage play are still happening. The filming should take place in a year or two. Harvey Weinstein will be producing the productions, so you know it is in great hands with the genius Harvey.
Anne did a wonderful Garland impression on SNL back in November. Now, I am confident Hathaway can pull-off a Judy Garland impression. Here it is:

@sp -- I can't believe this is my first time seeing that skit. Why don't they just give her the Oscar now?
badmofo, yes, absolutely. Anne Hathaway proved her genius on SNL. Who knew she had such great comedic timing and a wonderful gift for mimicry. This is why she was afforded this Oscar co-hosting gig. Anne easily surpassed Betty White, Amy Poeler, Tina Fey, Amy Adams, and Natalie Portman when they hosted SNL. On SNL, she reminded me of Carol Burnett, Lily Tomlin, & Tracey Ullman.
Woody Allen, Christopher Guest, and Mike Leigh needs to write a great comedy or dramedy for her. You just don't see this type of great talent in young actors.
P.S. I want to see Rachel McAdams, Carey Mulligan, or Michelle Williams pull-off the skill Anne brought to SNL.
