I was looking through your best actor nominations. Don't you think Christian Bale in Rescue Dawn has a stronger showing than Rank No.10? That movie has been steadily acquiring positive reviews, and its war themes are particularly resonant in this day and age. Plus, its Herzog as director; how often do you get to see that?

This looks like Polanski's MACBETH. Good choice- probably my favorite Shakespeare adaptation. I remember you writing a piece a while back bemoaning the fact that HAMLET gets adapted over and over while nobody really does MACBETH. But if you think about Polanski's version, you realize- they don't NEED to, since nobody could top it.

Personally, I'm waiting for the definitive OTHELLO. Welles' version is darn good, especially since Michael MacLiammoir gets Iago down perfect, but as an adaptation/big screen translation there's still room for improvement.

Still have to see this, but I doubt it will unseat my current favorite cinematic Shakespeare, Kurosawa's take on Macbeth, Throne of Blood.
