Monologue Mondays -"Faith Justin"

Lenny, just stay away from Tran, okay? And stay away from me.

Stop trying to rescue me. Those days are over. I'm a big girl now. Stop trying to save me, okay, because I don't need saving.

Just...give up on me.

You know one of the ways movies are still better than playback? The music comes up, there's credits, and you always know when it's over.

IT'S OVER!
"Faith Justin" as played by the rockin' Juliette Lewis in Strange Days (1995) Written by James Cameron and Jay Cocks. Directed by Kathryn Bigelow. This largely unheralded performance closed out a five year run of astonishing work from the always potent actress. Like the film itself, this turn almost grasped what it was reaching for --flawed but still riveting.

Is it just me, or does Juliette Lewis look A LOT like John Cameron Mitchell?

I've always thought Juliette was better than the films she was in. Natural Born Killers, Cape Fear, but I remember quite liking Strange Days

...and now she can be seen being snarky on VH1's Best Week Ever. Seriously, what happened there? She once showed a lot of promise, especially in Gilbert Grape and Natural Born Killers.

'Strange Days' is like smorgasbord of very talented and highly watchable -- but alas, criminally underrated -- actors: Ralph Fiennes, Angela Bassett, Juliette Lewis, Tom Sizemore, Vincent D'Onofrio, etc. No surprise then that the film itself was and still remains largely ignored (sigh).

P.S. Juliette Lewis + Rachel Griffiths = John Cameron Mitchell

She was pretty freaking good in the play she did in London. No surprise, I guess.

Love her. And her Licks.

Check out Juliette in "Aurora Borealis" co-starring Donald Sutherland and Louise Flethcer. She's the best thing about the whole movie.

Was just thinking about this same scene yesterday! Her version of "Rid of Me" is a favourite-of-all-time.
