Something I Have Been Obsessed With This Week For No Apparent Reason

That Jack Fisk, art director extraodinaire (There Will Be Blood) is married to Sissy Spacek. And that's not all. That they've been married since...1974. They were in their 20s and they're still together. I wonder if they met on Badlands (1973)? --they've worked on several of the same projects including a personal favorite, Carrie. Y'all know I love that one. I have no idea why this particular nugget of info has captivated me all week. But it has. I suspect he might win the Oscar this coming weekend.

Here might be more to be obsessed with - Fisk's association with David Lynch. Also consider that Fisk directed Raggedy Man while Lynch had Elephant Man, and Fisk made Violets are Blue while Lynch had his Bobby Vinton titled Blue Velvet.

Jack Fisk is the man. I hope he wins.

Jack Fisk worked with David Lynch on Eraserhead - appeared as the Man in the Planet. The film gives Special Thanks to both him and Sissy Spacek.

They did meet on the set of Badlands
I remember an interview with spacek in a french magazine a while ago where she mentionned it.
She also mentionned that when watching the film now, she felt like she was watching her daughter rather than she...
Still her most extraordinary performance i believe

I know what you mean! I was obsessed about this when I found this out a few days before There Will Be Blood came out and kept thinking about it before seeing the film. It means Sissy will be at the Oscars again! If only she was presenting, it would make an already great presenters list even better.

And I want them to join the illustrious ranks of Minnelli-Garland, Newman-Woodward, Robbins-Sarandon et al this Sunday.

There was a NY Times profile about him last month, where they talked about his relationship with his wife and David Lynch. You can find it if you type his name in the archive search. He met Sissy Spacek on the set of Badlands and became friends with David Lynch when they were 14 and attending the same high school.

Crap, I forgot he was married to Spacek as well, and if I'd known I would have picked him (I went with Atonement instead).

Sissy Spacek in Badlands HAS to be one of the most underrated performances around. People rarely talk about it!

she & jack fisk frequented a local diner owned by my ancient (now deceased)cousin in selbyville, de while they were making "violets are blue." they were very friendly from what i hear. He, my old cousin/Josh, was thrilled to have them...however, when he introduced her to his other customers, he called her "Stacy Stay-sack." He had her picture taken with her and Fisk...it's autographed..."Love to you josh, we ejoyed it, hope to be back...Stacy Stacak". She apparently didn't have the heart to tell him he had been calling her the wrong name for several weeks. Isn't that nice?

what a great story

yes, very sweet of her. i let people call me Daniel at work all the time cuz they get it wrong. But one time it came back to haunt me --i gradually became good friends with someone at work and then had to correct them and they were pissed that i had let it slide for a month.

finally saw TWBB last night (hey - I live in New Zealand and it just opened. Don't judge!) Apart from Lewis, the incredibly evocative production design has stayed in my thoughts. Fisk's work was so incredibly detailed - he gets my vote
