"Corn Nuttttts!"

This week marks the 20th anniversary of the theatrical release of the classic high school satire Heathers.
Dear Diary, My teen angst bullshit has a body count.
It's quite a formative movie and the primary reason that people of my generation will always consider Winona Ryder's fall from the A-List a lost opportunity for filmmakers and audiences alike. Yet I didn't write about it to celebrate. No, I don't know what my damage is. In the absence of my own commentary read this fine anniversary post at Film.com. My New Plaid Pants is also celebrating in typically sick fashion.

Heathers will be on my personal canon list (the one that will be completed sometime late this century at the rate its developing) but until I get around to it, enjoy the brief group appearance of the Heathers in The Film Experience's classic "She's a B**** at the Movies" video... [NSFW]

Heathers was the one that started my cinephilia. I was 15, had just seen Mean Girls and wanted to see something similar. That's how I found it, and then one thing lead to another, I started watching more and more films and now I can't stop. Heathers has a special place in my heart because of that.

It's so ironic that Kim Walker died of a brain tumor though.

Seeking Amy, Heathers was a major movie find for me in high school too. Always heard about it, finally checked it out (at 15 too) and loved every minute of it. Veronica Sawyer was my hero for a while but Heather Chandler is the original mean girl. Love how every time she speaks to Heather Duke, her voice practically drips with disdain. "Such a pillow case."

Wayne B, I'm so glad to hear that it was a high school memory for you too! Heathers has so much quotability that something like Juno wishes it had half of that amount

I would love to see Michael Lehmann and Daniel Waters team up again. It's time for people to forgive HUDSON HAWK, which is really not a travesty (seriously.)

It seems like "Juno" is becoming the new Heathers for the current high school set. I have younger sisters and it was a huge hit for them and their friends. Can't tell you how many quotes and praise I've heard about it, it's almost sickening.
Don't get me wrong, I like the movie and Ellen Page's performance(she's a fellow Canuck, gotta give it up to her) but I'm not feeling its current neo-classic status.

I can't wait to unleash "Heathers" on my sisters. Way I see it "Juno" is just a baby, Heathers is the big mama of high school movies.

I feel the same. I liked Juno enough, even if it was overcooked and tried really hard, but I'm so tired of everyone treating it like it's a film for the ages.
