Which movie character...

...do you most want to hug?

Spread the love.

<--- Jones, as suggested by P_T_D. Lots of other great hug receivers in the comments. Add a name to the list

Conrad Jarrett in Ordinary People. He's just so needy and vulnerable throughout the entire movie that all you want to do is hug him until the pain goes away.

I think it's a tie between every character in Almost Famous.

Travis Bickle.

Michelle Pfeiffer in White Oleander, because I've always wanted to know what the North Pole feels like.

Ennis Del Mar for starters.

Oh boy.

Almost anyone in Next Stop, Greenwich Village except Clyde Baxter but especially Bernstein Chandler. (Need to get this in my DVD collection ASAP.)

And for entirely different reasons: Arthur Stuart and Curt Wild in Velvet Goldmine, at the same time, for a long time...

Christine Jesperson in "Me and You and Everyone We Know."

Actually, I just want to hug Miranda July. And be hugged back. And then hopefully take things from there.

Is Dumbo too obvious?
Cause... Dumbo.

"Thanks a bunch!" Margie Gunderson in "Fargo". I love her. She is just all around huggable.

Dame James... but would those hugs even be enough. NEED is vast as the cosmos!

Devin... The Brave One

Hayden ... HA!

Guy... i volunteer to press the button on the applause sound effects when you begin your mutual embrace.

Jones from Alien. There's only so much a cat can take ...

Wall-E is runner-up, simply because it's (presumably) easier to hug a cat than a boxy robot.

Bill Irwin's Paul in "Rachel Getting Married." If my single mother were to have had a man while I was growing up, that's the type of father I coulda been down with.

Sophie Zawitowski. she's just so sad.

The big honkin' Totoro from My Neighbor Totoro. I could use a big fuzzy monster in my life right now.

I'm a cheater, but I can't choose just one. On a purely platonic level I'd like to hug Ethel Thayer (K.H.) in On Golden Pond - she's like a loopy grandmother. But then hug could be romantic and I'd love to hug (kiss and do some more things) to Michelle Pfeifer in Dangerous Liaisons. But that's not what you meant... is it?

Giselle (Amy Adams) in Enchanted

Alexandria (Catinca Untaru) & Roy (Lee Pace) in The Fall

Clarice Starling because she really needs a hug. And to make those lambs stop screaming. But I know Clarice will survive without my hug.

And I'm only talking about the "real" Clarice, Jodie in Silence of the Lambs.

Dawn Wiener from Welcome To The Dollhouse

Probably Ashley Johnston from Junebug. I think that would be the most satisfying hug ever. she would put so much love into it

In terms of who needs a hug the most, I'll say Diane Selwyn (Naomi Watts) in Mulholland Drive.

Dimi said...

Warren R. Schmidt from About Schmidt. Something besides that letter needs to comfort him.

For a variety of reasons, James Leer from Wonder Boys.

Ben said...

Mark Ruffalo in just about anything, but particularly when he cries on the roof of Reese Witherspoon's appartment in Just Like Heaven. And if I couldn't have that, I'd happily take him dancing in his underpants in Eternal Sunshine.

Ben said...

I was also going to say Ashley from Junebug.

Also Charlotte (ScarJo) from Lost in Translation. I might even want to whisper a secret in her ear....

Emma Thompson as Elinor Dashwood in "Sense & Sensibility". She needs a hug so desperately!

first one that comes to my mind is Thomas Jane's in The Mist. At the very end. That guy sure needs more than a hug.

Poppy from Happy-Go-Lucky most recently... And then we would go party all night long like real BFFs :D

or...

Dakota Fanning in I Am Sam because she was so freakin' adorable and helpless :)

I like the Amy Adams' Giselle from Enchanted idea... That should be lovely... :)

Or participate in that group hug (whichever of the two) in 'Rachel Getting Married'

Margot from Margot at the Wedding

Martha Dumptruck of Heathers...Cause she's so fat, she probably hasn't been hugged much. That way shoe wouldn't pin that suicide note to her chest.

Scarlett O'Hara right after the mean mean mean Rhett Butler said "Frankly my dear, I don't give a damn"

Giselle from "Enchanted" and Sheldon Mopes from "Death to Smoochy".

Right on, Ben and Casey.
I would also say Ashley from Junebug. She's probably the only character who I felt a very strong urge to hug every moment she was on screen.

I think if every one in IN THE BEDROOM got a hug, so much pain could have been avoided.

But I would like to hug Matt Damon in GOOD WILL HUNTING..."it's not your fault....it's not your fault... you're so cute"

Ok, I would hug Willow when she is being a bad witch in the season 6 finale of BUFFY.

And don't you think James Dean needed a hug in REBEL WITH OUT A CAUSE? And Diane Keaton in LOOKING FOR MR. GOODBAR too. Right?

Chris Na Taraja said...

Agustin, yes! Dawn needed a hug in WELCOME TO THE DOLLHOUSE, especially at the end of the movie when she is singing to herself on the bus.

Chris Na Taraja said...

Oh yeah, the mother in MURIELS WEDDING, when Muriel doesn't see her at the wedding. She breaks my heart.

Both of the "Brokeback" boys rank really high, but having just seen "(500) Days of Summer," I'm going to have to say Tom (Joseph Gordon Levitt) from that film. He and Summer (Zooey Deschanel) are one of the most adorable movie couples I've ever seen in my life, and since she's not as cuddly (and he's a boy), he wins.

NATHANIEL R said...

Chris... i don't think I would dare hug Dark Willow, so you're a braver man than I.

Virginia Madsen in 'Sideways'
Joseph Gordon Levitt in 'Mysterious Skin'
Emile Hirsch in 'Into the Wild'

Brendan Harris (played by Tom Guiry) from Mystic River. Because it's never fun to watch someone's happiness and innocence fall apart around them so suddenly.

Gollum from Lord of the Rings. Those great big eyes get me every time.

Ruth Hussey as Liz Imbrie in The Philadelphia Story. You're going to be okay, Liz. :(

Cosmo Brown and Poppy.
They are just so awesome,man.

Phillip Seymour Hoffman in "The Savages." Actually, I'd hug PSH in almost any of his roles (except maybe "Capote"), but he particularly needs hugging in this one.

Carl said...

Another for Amy Adams. Can we all get together and have our own meeting of AA?

Nick M. said...

I would also say TFE favorite Amber Waves in Boogie Nights. She's always so busy hugging everyone else, it might be nice for her to actually receive a hug once.

Dave said...

@ Bill_the_Bear: You'd hug Freddie Miles?

I'd like to hug Edward Scissorhands, but obviously I'd have to be careful with where he puts his hands. And that is not meant in a sexual way AT ALL.

Carl said...

Oops - meant Giselle, played by Amy Adams.

Wayne B. said...

I'd give a hug to Shug from "Hustle & Flow".

Karen said...

Great question! Probably...

Andrew Largeman from Garden State.

NATHANIEL R said...

Daisy... well, they'd both DEFINITELY hug you back. So there's that! not all of thse people would... no matter how badly they may need to.

richard said...

Posner (Samuel Bennett) from The History Boys. not a great adaptation of the great play, but still a great performance, and i just want him to be happy.

NATHANIEL R said...

richard... samuel barnett definitely deserves the hug! But he should have to sing for it first on account of the beautiful voice.
