Remember...

Jose here with a small reminder now that the awards season is going full throttle...

Before getting too excited about all the upcoming features, let's not forget how spectacular Michelle Pfeiffer was in Chéri. Nate has been saying it throughout the year so I thought I'd join him in this particular pleading.

If only for how stunning she was in the last scene and for lacking any self-consciousness when it came to looking, and acting, her age. I'm sure when it comes to Oscar time, quoting her character in the film, "I'm probably making a fool of myself..", their memories seem only to start working come the fall. But then again she makes it, and my reminder, seem more appropriate when she says "...then again, why not? Life is short."

Eh ... Can't say I agree too much. That whole movie left me pretty cold, including the performance. Not bad at all, but nothing really blew me away.

Throughout that film, all I could do (other than fawn over her controlled performance) was fawn over her (almost) flawless (yet lived-in) beauty. I was totally a Pfan of the entire film though, so :D

God what is it with this film being on everybody's mind today... everybody as in me. All we can do is wait and hope. It's times like these make me think Oscar jumped the gun and should have had ten nominees for Best Actress...then again...no.

Let it go, people. A nomination ain't gonna happen.

Jose, I'm still hopeful for her too. I think a Golden Globe nomination is secure at least. They've usually been kind to her. She might get a lot of support from her fellow actors. Remember how the Screen Actors Guild was the only major body to nominate her for White Oleander in '02?

Don't actors make up the largest branch of the Academy?

You know who I loved in this? Rupert Friend. He nailed the beautiful, bored, immature Cheri. Best in show, as far as I'm concerned.

Am I the only one that felt some kind of "deja vu" with last scene??
It reminded me so much of Glenn Close's last close-up in Dangerous Liaisons.
Is the Pfeiffer-Frears-Hampton reunion that led me to make this connection is it actually there??
And in a right world both Michelle Pfeifer and Tilda Swinton (Julia) would be in serious contention for an Oscar nomination, but we all know it won't happen.

I also love love LOVE Michelle Pfeiffer, but I just cannot see her getting a nomination for Cheri. I think her performance was hurt by the editing of the film - it was just all over the place. Would love to see her at the Oscars but I won't be holding my breath.....

People¡¡

Cheri was a very good film, I enjoyed with this film so much¡¡

I give the film 8,75 between 0 and 10. Very entertaining and very deep and very well written.

I think that the film deserve various nominations, but deserve to win these 3 Oscars:

* Actress
* Costumes
* Music

Pffeifer performance was terrific¡¡¡ breathtaking¡¡ She made cry during various scenes of the film, and the final scene was espectacular and when I saw that scene, I thouth about the film The Heiress, by the great William Wyler

Nathaniel, you can do something to push this film and specifically Pffeifer to the Kodak theatre and to win??

I want to write to Miramax, to the Screen Actors Guild, to the Golden Globes, etc, etc, and I'll do it

She deserves an Oscar, not Penelope Cruz, Halle Berry, Charlize Theron, Renee Zellweger, Kim Basinger, etc, etc
