Which movie...

...do you consider chicken soup for the soul?

yes Nathaniel is still crawling out from under the worst flu evah. I don't recommend catching it. Drink lots of fluids and get plenty of sleep and take vitamins and exercize! P.S. A big thank you to the reader who sent me an email consisting of a photo of chicken soup and a photo of Hugh Jackman from Australia. You are too kind / funny and you know who you are.

Lately, Id' say Julie & Julia or Happy Go Lucky.
Vintage: Whenever I get sick I love watching Douglas Sirk, but I love watcching them in the fall. For late summer medicine I'd stick with classics like Annie Hall or Fellini's Amarcord. Get better!

Field of Dreams with Kevin Costner and James Earl Jones. Even though I loathe baseball, I love the magic of this movie.

I was gonna say Wonder Boys too; how odd. There's just something about it that makes me feel wonderful every single time though.

Feel better, Nat!

The Big Lebowski because theres no better way to work out problems than bowling and a white russian.
And
The Royal Tenenbaums, because more often than not my issues revolve around my crazy fucking family and so many of these characters remind me of my family member

My soul is always eased by TOP HAT, which teaches me all problems are merely mistaken identity, and feelings are best expressed by dancing.

Singing in the Rain. No matter my mood or if I'm well or sick, that movie is it.

Casablanca is a close second.

Singin' in the Rain; Strictly Ballroom; Persuasion (the 1995 version)

(I just rewatched small parts of Persuasion today, and it is wonderful. Sigh.)

Ditto the suggestion for Top Hat, or Swing Time, or pretty much any Astaire/Rodgers film from this era. When I'm sick these films make me feel like I'm not full of phlegm and gross and am instead wearing a ball gown and hatching plots with Edward Everett Horton and Eric Blore.

Stranger Than Fiction.

Or Shawshank Redemption. Or Before Sunrise. Or (honestly) Forrest Gump. Or Juno.

Ooo, Annie Hall's a good choice.

I'd also have to strangely say the Star Wars movies because they always seem to be on when I'm sick and lying on the couch all day.

Sex and The City as well. Whenever I'm down or sick I just throw in some episodes and it's so comforting!

Though they've been said before, they bear repeating: Singin' in the Rain, The Princess Bride, and WALL-E. These movies should be beatified for their healing prowess.

Hilary Swank said...

Mean Girls
easily one of the funniest films!

Last time I was sick, I watched Paul Thomas Anderson's "Magnolia." I think I got even sicker.

I like to watch 'The Third Man' when I'm sick. Or 'The Maltese Falcon'. Something about really thickly layered noir helps me heal.

The next movie up on my Favorites countdown, but that's all I'll say. :) Unless you want to play Hangman:

_ _ _ _ I _ _    _ _ _    T _ _ _ I _ _

I'd go with Once. Sweet and filled with lovely music.

or The Color Purple. You can't not feel happy for Celie and Shug.

or any musical where you can sing along. :)

Oh, Once is such a great choice!

Everyone on this site is insanely good at games. You got it, JA. When I check back in on that series, I'll be giving big bear-hugs to Catherine Keener and Anne Heche.

"E.T." - still Spielberg's greatest miracle on celluloid. Though I agree that "Field of Dreams" can go on a very short list.
