Splendor in the Blog

It's my birthday in just three days and I've been feeling so down, largely due to pet stress. I've also misplaced my creative mojo. I don't want to say I've lost it. ("It must be here somewhere," he says with budding panic in his voice.)

My first birthday gift arrived early: Nick reviewed Natalie Wood's Oscar nominated Splendor in the Grass (1961) performance. That's one of my very favorite performances, Oscar-nominated or otherwise by one of my favorite movie stars. When feeling blue, it's a good idea to lose yourself in actressing. My birthday gift to myself was The Michelle Pfeiffer Star Collection. My pronounced film obsession doesn't translate to DVD ownership (I know some people find that odd... but that's just the way it is) so I didn't have any of these yet, not even The Fabulous Baker Boys! I know, I know. I think I was holding out for the European version which I'd heard had better extras.

I think I'll just keep this old gif of 100 favorite actresses (I'll update it someday -- it definitely needs major revisions) on perma-loop to the top right corner of my screen.

Whenever I glance up, some talented beauty will be appearing and then vanishing, only to be replaced by another. The actress mojo is never lost or misplaced, and ever increases.

Not too odd. I'm another of film buffs who doesn't buy a lot of DVDs. My collection is pretty dinky compared to many of my friends.

Natalie Wood is indeed great in Splendor in the Grass. The film itself is at times too melodramatic for my taste, but she's at least memorable in it.

Ha, we have the same birthday, and birthdays often make me feel down.

Natalie is lovely in Splendor in the Grass and I always like the movie a little more when I think of Kazan who has ended up getting such a bad rep even though he's so talented (why harangue the man about his politics?)

Besides actressexuality you can watch Friends to feel better. I do it all the time.
You seem to be really down for minths now. At least I'm glad your writing hasn't lost its joyfulness. My best wishes to you and Monty.

By the way, birthdays have really become my worst enemy the last few years.

I LOVE that gif! One tiny note though: Gong Li's last name is Gong, not Li :P

Sure you'll come through it Nathaniel:)

Fabulous Baker Boys really does get better with every viewing, (being a little Sideways) it's such a lovely wine. I would of nominated all three of them.

I can never really review a Natalie Wood performance because I'm always dumbstruck by her stunning beauty.

Hear, hear. I like the Russian roulette style of what the theatres/TV will offer than the certainty of the DVD.

And Natalie Wood. So young yet so mature.

Bit down myself too. Wish I had Lurene's spirit... I must get a copy of Love Field!
